The Washington Post's Anti-Thanksgiving Screed

It should come as no surprise that the left is inherently anti-gratitude. As an anti-human, redistributionist world-view, it derives its power by instilling in people gratitudes antithesis: Entitlement.
The Washington Posts Monday column by Brian Palmer, The Environmental Costs of a Thanksgiving Meal, is a case study, attacking the traditions enjoyed by Americans for centuries as a reminder that what we receive at the hands of our Creator is often more than we deserve.
Of course, that was before climate change.
Or, to quote Palmer:
Fossil fuels changed that equation.
What follows is a loosely annotated analysis of the supposed greenhouse gas emissions required to bring you your Thanksgiving dinner.
In total, a 3 1/2-ounce serving of turkey is responsible for approximately 2.4 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalents, which is about the same as you produce by driving a car three miles. Of course, youre not really going to limit yourself to one serving of turkey, so the actual footprint is likely to be larger. Ill put you down for two servings, or the equivalent of six miles of driving.
Or:
One cup of mashed potatoes will release approximately 1.5 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalents.
Again assuming that you go for seconds, that means the equivalent of driving 3.7 miles.
Dish after dish, the article proceeds to instill doubt and guilt where previously were found only gratitude and humility.
When you add up the turkey, potatoes, vegetables and wine, your Thanksgiving meal might be responsible for emitting more than 10 pounds of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. If youre traveling fewer than 10 miles, theres a good chance youll emit more carbon dioxide eating than driving to and from your meal.
When Dan Savage declares theres too many goddamn people on the planet and that abortion should be mandatory for population control, it is a peak behind the curtain, where leftism masquerades as companionate, tolerant, and equitable, to the true motives that underlie its foundation the desire of power, control, and destruction.
What Palmer does here, while less obvious, is really more of the same for the anti-human ideology.

The Left becomes totally unhinged over anything that has to due with reverence for the God of the Bible.

How many carbon dioxide equivalents in a unicorn’s rainbow?
Environmentalists want to know...

I wasn’t going to do a turkey this year but maybe I will if it makes a liberal cry.

It seems the WaPo has no concept of the ‘economy of scale’.

It seems the WaPo has no concept of the economy of scale. The claim would be that these figures represent the pro-rated contribution of the various emissions that they consider, due to large scale agriculture.
They do seem high, I'll say that. Maybe they double count in there somehow, like the old "add up the hours in your day" story. Dunno.
They might have some zingers in there, too, like nitrous oxide or something that counts 20 times CO2, or something. Just guessing.

I mean their assertion that 7 ounces of turkey would be worth twice the CO2 of 3.5 ounces of turkey - I don’t think the math works that way.

Some liberals are refusing to call it “Thanksgiving”.
Similar to how liberals have focused on not saying “Christmas”, some extreme liberals don’t want to call Thanksgiving by that name. Reasons are that Thanksgiving is a religious term, and also that whole meme that we stole this continent from the aboriginal peoples, and the 1st Thanksgiving was in honor of that, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Is there anything which liberals touch which is not negatively affected by their touch?
Even rodeos are now in the liberal cross hairs, as we can’t have a rodeo clown with a mask of certain people such as Obama. Liberals who have never been to a rodeo and have no clue about it want to set standards for rodeos.
That sums up liberalism. Liberals want to control every aspect of life.
To: eclecticEel
Well, it’s pro-rated, so if commercial turkey production were cut in half, presumably it would still be a large scale production, just with half the number of large scale contributors. This is the law of diminishing returns, I believe, when you go big, you gain efficiency, but when you go bigger, you gain less.

Boy, this guy must be a real ray of sunshine at Thanksgiving dinner.
Sitting there, eating his bowl of cold porridge and frowning at everyone.
And harrumphing as he walks back to his apartment in the freezing rain.
Bah, humbug I say!

They are making the world grim, gray and humorless.
Holidays, parties, babies, music, games, family, anything that brings joy they are determined to snuff the fun if they can't outlaw them all together.
What a bunch of sour pusses.

That’s it. Finally figured it out. We were wondering what to have for the Thanksgiving meal. I am going to smoke a turkey. Lots of smoky wood burning for about 12 hours.

Someone should tell this guy about trees - they take in carbon dioxide to live, and give off oxygen! And...they’re natural! Many of us will have them just outside our windows as we eat that big Thanksgiving dinner!
