With home invasions and other robberies on the rise in and around Indianapolis, gun store owners say there is a "large increase" in the number residents who are "buying guns, applying for gun permits, and taking gun safety courses."

We have policemen, why do those people need guns? (sarcasm). When I encounter people who talk like that I ask them why we need smoke detectors and fire extinguishers because, after all, we have firemen.
This home invasion crap is getting more and more out of control every day.
Doh! I forgot, just put out that placard in the yard that says “Monitored by XXX security” and have 911 on speed dial. You don’t need no steenkin’ gun cause having one in the house causes the accidental shooting rate to increase by 150%. We’ll have bloomies MAIGgots or mark kelley-giffords call you and ‘splain all this to you. LOL!
And if the home invaders yell “police!” as they break in,
you have very little time to decide.
If they are police and you defend your home, you WILL DIE.
If they aren’t police and you don’t defend your home, you WILL DIE.
“And if the home invaders yell police! as they break in,
you have very little time to decide.
If they are police and you defend your home, you WILL DIE.
If they arent police and you dont defend your home, you WILL DIE.”....
Definitely something to think about before you shoot. That has crossed my mind several times, particularly when I read about the cops crashing in the wrong house.
Groan - just when we were starting to see handgun ammo back on the shelves here in Indy. (except for 22LR and .357 range ammo - it’s still scarce)
I almost choked on my coffee thinking about that possibility. Damn.
This is something that needs to be brought up with legislators in your state.
Yes, it is a DIRE situation.
The answer, of course, would be to make sure that the police never hit the wrong house, or so rarely do so that any home invasion should be assumed by the homeowner to be criminal behavior. (Yes, it IS criminal behavior when done by the police on the wrong house.)
Maybe much stiffer penalties for the “go guy” when they decide to invade a residence.
What will happen if the police have the wrong address and/or wrong name on the warrant? If they kick your door in and you defend yourself and kill/wound them, are you guilty of anything if they are wrong?
I know that as of now I have NOTHING illegal in my house, so if they are screaming “POLICE!! WARRANT!!” I know that they are wrong. So, if I shoot them, what happens to me? Legally that is. Probably shot trying to escape is what will happen later.
Just wondering about the legal implications of it all.
Now you know why the left wants to take guns away from normal people.
(So that the poor, ‘oppressed’ underclass can just waltz right in and take whatever it wants - kind of income redistribution.)
I prefer 1911.
Well played. I always forget to dial the 1+911.
I prefer 0118 999 881 99 9119 725......3.
Excellent! First time I've heard this analogy. The challenge with trying to inform those devoid of any training in logic is to keep it simple.
Your analogy will make for a great conversation starter...
Again let me beat the drum that home defense should be imagined much like the in-trench trench warfare of World War I, as they are tactically very similar. This means pistol in one hand and fighting knife in the other hand.
At your leisure, take a measuring tape to figure out the typical engagement distances in your home. That is, one end of a hallway to the other, from one room at the right angle looking into another, etc. All told, these distances will probably be around 15 feet or less.
Tueller drill, plus alcohol, drugs, and adrenaline, means that a home invader can feel bulletproof and close the gap quickly. Even if you get a couple of rounds in him, he might still be in your face.
Right where that fighting knife is of optimal value.
It really is easy to adjust to the idea of guns and knives being twins, things that go well together, and are complementary to each others’ purpose. If you carry one, carry the other.
I’ve been reading a lot of books about Patton.
One of his many items on his relentless troop inspections was how sharp a soldier’s combat knives were.
Most of these ‘home invasions under color of law’, er, no-knock raids would become unnecessary if the Insane War on {some} Drugs was ended.
The police state hasn’t been implemented to facilitate the War on Drugs...
The War on Drugs is the excuse used to implement the police state.
It’s a matter of goals and means and examining which is which.
