The family of a kidnapped woman in Duson, La., Bethany Arceneaux, took justice into their own hands Friday when they rescued Arceneaux from her captor, Scott Thomas, killing Thomas in the scuffle that ensued.

Arceneaux, 29, was kidnapped on Wednesday from a child-care center parking lot by Thomas, 29, the father of her son, reported The Advertiser. Their two-year-old son was in her car at the time, and was not harmed.

Arceneaux’s family received a tip that she was being kept in an abandoned house nearby. As law enforcement had not yet acted, a half dozen family members assembled at the house and kicked down the door. They said they did not know what they would find.

They found Arceneaux, bloody but alive, and Thomas. In the confrontation between Arceneaux’s family and Thomas, guns were fired and Thomas was fatally shot.

Kind of stupid to get revenge on you own. We have a saying “that’s why God made alligators.” No evidence.

It is complicated. I have heard the term ‘quadroon’, ‘creole’, ‘cajun’ ‘octroon’- all are different mixes of races and percentages. No one batted an eye when referring to a person using one of these terms. But, everyone seemed to know everyone’s heritage and used each term accordingly.

Clearly this entire family is predominantly black. I mean, Arceneax Hall is a picture-perfect definition of a black man here in the U.S.

:-P

The line between Cajun and Creole can be a thin one not apparent to outsiders. It’s more of a variation in mindset, who do you claim, that sort of thing. Most Cajuns aren’t all that different from a redneck, albeit French-descended and historically if not actually Catholic. Others are a little more complex, racially and culturally, but even the rural Appalachian south has historical mixed race communities, part white, part black, part indian, not at all concerned with being somewhat outside the law in certain matters, usually located in very remote areas or on state lines to enable jumping jurisdictions when trouble found it’s way home and it eventually did. These people you don’t mess with. They’ve been at odds with the PTB for centuries and are used to taking matters into their own hands.

Bethany’s hair is dyed blond, she is lighter complected and she and her family are African-American. Beautiful young woman.

What a brave, loving thing they did! What were police going to do, wait for an invitation? The restraining order was worthless...as per usual.

I learned that when I was 11 from Jerry Reed.

Well the Sheriff got wind that Amos
Was in the swamp tracking alligator skin.
So he snuck in the swamp, gonna get the boy,
But he never come out again.
Well I wonder where the Louisiana Sheriff went to?
Well you can sure get lost in the Louisiana Bayou!

Unless it’s actually stated that she bleached her hair, that’s not necessarily so. Light hair and eyes may be recessive but those genes are still present, sometimes materializing to striking effect. Most such people here eventually come out looking sort of Mideastern, from generation after generation of intermarrying, but occasionally you get a Heather Locklear. She’s Lumbee. Indian-identified group but mixed race, white, black and indian. Other names used for such people, Redbone, Melungeon. Derogatory names too, in the mountains, ridgerunner carried an insulting connotation that is politely described as uncouth.

I would pay to be on the jury if these people are charged.

No way in hell would they ever be convicted on a jury I sat on.

I loved how the end of the video shows everyone congratulating each other on a job well done, working together, and happy to have rescued the victim. A good ending to a story that might’ve had a very different outcome if the family hadn’t acted.

I had the pleasure of meeting some LA Cajuns last year via a friend...they were all great, spoke French and English, cooked some great food and made us feel like family. My friend said we were accepted and now “in the Cajun clan”.

MANY A SMALL VILLAGE IN EARLY AMERICA COULD NOT OR DID NOT BOTHER TO BUILD A JAIL HOUSE TO HOLD THE OCCASIONAL MISCREANT WHO WONDERED INTO THEIR AREA AND WAS ARRESTED BY A CONSTABLE...WHAT TO WITH HIM TILL TRIAL TIME?

THE SOLUTION WAS INGENIOUS. THE VILLAGE BLACKSMITH
FORGED A HEAVY HOLDING OR RESTRAINT CHAIR MADE OF IRON AND LEATHER STRAPS ...THE BAD GUY WAS STRAPPED INTO THAT CHAIR AND IT WAS PARKED IN THE PUBLIC SQUARE. DEPENDING ON THE CRIME AND THE ‘ATTITUDE’ OF THE OFFENDER OFTEN TIMES IT WAS PLACED OUT IN THE OPEN UNDER A HOT SUN....
IT WAS A GREAT DETERRENT TO CRIME... A LIVING EXAMPLE TO OTHERS WHO MIGHT BE SO FOOLISH AS TO OFFEND...
