The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

She was posting while I was typing.
Since it rained nearly every day, nothing was happening outside except for Prissy who would charge out between rains to chase squirrels. Took her to the groomer this morning. She is so close to the ground when she goes into the garden, she gets small twigs and leaves stuck in her leg fur and it’s a chore to get it out of the hair, plus she would also get wet even though it wasn’t raining at that time.
I had four inches in the rain gauge, then got two more, then dumped it, and have two inches in it now from the past day.
By the way, I only got 2 measly lemons the first year, but have had loads since then. I have to pick off lots of the beginning fruits, because I know that the tree couldn’t possibly grow that many.
I am going to have to explore that Deck Corn next year too.
I have so much seed leftover from this year, that I don’t think I need to order any thing except maybe bush beans, deck corn, and mortgage lifter tomato.
Your lemon is in a container? Mine is too. Actually, I have two in containers, the other had a bunch of flowers that budded into little tiny fruit, then all dropped off the plant about 5 months ago.
I got the kneeling/seat thingy yesterday and haven’t taken it out of the box yet. I’m really glad to get that - things around here close to the floor might get cleaned up now. Operative word is, “might”.
A friend of mine in Ohio has a Wysteria tree for 20 years, and it never flowered , and she couldn't figure out why it never flowered.
I told her that the plant was 'too complacent', and had no stress.
I told her to hit it with a bat, or a 2 X 4 board, about seven or eight times ; that year it flowered profusely for the first time .
Sometimes a little stress is needed to motivate plants to flower ,set fruit , and set seed to reproduce .
I'm feeling an itch to open that area up and include it in the tobacco patch. That would give me about 600 sq ft just for tobacco.
I realized today that my gardens are actually quite a bit larger than my house, on a square ft basis.

Except at my area with this last round..It's weird, further down stream from us on The Guadalupe River, flooding, evacuations..Heck, I had to water my garden today.

You should definitely do that for tobacco.
Yes. It has always been in a container. It is way past time that I should have transplanted it probably, but it’s in a pot about 13”x 13” x 15” tall, so I doubt that I could manage the change without harming it.
I read that when you transfer to a bigger pot, it should not be very much bigger to keep the branch growth under control. Also, pruning is supposed to help for some reason.
If your fruit dropped off, the tree may have been going into self protection mode and spending its energy to produce leaves for some reason. Maybe too dry, not enough sun, not enough nutrients etc.
Last time mine was dropping fruit, it was outdoors, and I gave it a dose of liquid nutrients, and sprinkled some slow release osmote type granuales around, and picked off all the rest of the tiny fruits except for about six or seven which was all I thought the tree could support. I kept picking off the flowers after they bloomed for quite a while.
When it is blooming and setting fruit, I usually use a liquid nutrient that is higher in phosphorus than the balanced types.
I have a lot of trouble with aphids during the summer months too.
On a personal note, my wife had a knee blowout Tuesday morning. She had an emergency visit to the ortho Dr and is relying heavily on a cane to walk. We have an MRI scheduled in the morning in the Woodlands. I think the Dr suspects a torn meniscus. Follow up Dr visit is Tues.
Glad you got the thingy. I have some fold up bar stools at strategic locations for when my hips/knees/feet/back start to give me too much grief.LOl
Well that’s what I have read too, but I guess there is a point when you can have too much of a good or bad thing.LOL

Oh no! Sorry you didn’t get in on some of the liquidity.
Oh, my. How did she do that? My right knee got so bad, I was using a cane so the leg wouldn’t collapse, and went to surgeon and said fix it whatever you have to do. He went into the knee and cleaned arthritic crap out and also found my knee cap was out of place. I had fallen some time before that and landed on that knee and must have pushed the knee cap out of its groove.
It’s okay now as long as I don’t walk a long way. I try to move my foot if I change direction instead of causing the knee to twist - pain comes if I do that and can last for days.
Well, she will have to do whatever is necessary to get it to work without pain. My knee was so painful, I was willing to rip the skin off myself, just stop the pain.
The local expert at the seed store said to just increase the diameter of the pot by 2”, that is 1” bigger all the way around. A master gardener that used to have a TV show said that when re-potting into the same pot, to cut 1/3 off the rootball, and prune 1/3 off the top of the plant. They both know more than me, so I take it for true. YMMV
She did it just walking out the driveway before work, 5am. One step was just fine, the next it hit her, she almost collapsed, but did not, thank the Lord. She went to work anyway without waking me. She came back about noon. I had an ortho dr appointment so she had called them from work to get her in at the same time. I told her mine was not important, if necessary, she could have my appointment. But she was able to be seen also.
