The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

I opened the “Gardman Foldaway Garden Kneeler Seat $28.53” I ordered from Walmart

I think I mentioned this before, but I've noticed when I'm signed in to my WM acc't, and look at gardening stuff (or other stuff), when I don't purchase it, I will get emails from them about the item I didn't purchase.

I received them for several weeks about a growhouse I didn't purchase, and the price was lower each time they emailed me. Also, I received one saying, "we see you didn't order xxx. Our website was experiencing problems. Here is a coupon for a $5.00 e-gift card."

I don't mind Walmart "tracking" what I look for when they keep trying to lure me to purchase with a lower price, or five buck gift cards.

Perhaps, I should've looked and not bought with that growlight like yours, but since it was already 48% off, I'm glad I got it, and I love it. *Marcella Recommended works for me. You should do reviews on your purchases at their site.

Lord, I sound like an advertisement for WM.

“I will get emails from them about the item I didn't purchase.”

That is happening with almost every site I visit. I've got gardening companies and Walmart and Amazon and other sites posting ads right and left when I go to another site. They are going to run out of space on the page as I continue to go to gardening places looking for plants I want to buy for spring.

Plus, when I research material about whatever, here come the ads from those places day after day, could be books, anything, just click on the website and you get ads.

Someone told me to remove cookies after I've been to a place, but I'd be removing all day. If I get fed up, I can eliminate cookies. I just ignore the extra stuff that pops up on a page.

I really detest that. I remove cookies once a day or so.

Well, I’d rather get WM and Amazon pop ups about gardening, and baking, than those horrible “I want HER for my President”, and “ I stand behind our President..sign the petition now” pop ups..
Those make me want to throw my computer out the window.

The Preen is a great value just based on the amount for the price

Can the Preen be buried underground for square foot gardening..is it fabric? or just above ground plastic mulch film?

It’s not plastic, it is some kind of woven fabric that breaths, water goes right through it so you can feed with liquid foods or throw a fertilizer on it and let it water in by rain or sprinkler.

I do not square foot garden, but I would think it would work. I would use it or use 8 layers of newspaper. We used to use newspaper for a weed barrier but we lost our supply of newspaper when we moved. We do not buy newspapers, so we went to the fabric stuff.

I’ve seen those seats advertised. I have thought about ordering one to carry with me when I go out for a walk, or for when I get in line at Walmart on Government Check Issuance weekend.

Standing for longer than 20 or 30 minutes pinches a nerve and causes pain which gets worse the longer I stand.

Don’t punish yourself like that. I have big trouble just walking and standing hurts worse than walking does. I time my trips into town (grocery, Lowes, Wally) during low store traffic hours, like 7am. You may not be able to do that, but at least ride in a handicap scooter or something, don’t hurt your self. Nerve and orthopedic pain can be very serious, but I know you know that.

Yeh, I know it. Usually I just send hubby to store. Sometimes, though I just have to go, and I always get interested in stuff and then bam, it hits me, and I get in line.

Interestingly enough there is some evidence that working out with weights helps. I tried it a few years ago, and was able to go for an hour and half before getting the bad pain. However, then I got had some bad spells, and got away from excercising.

I am getting more energy now, so soon I will be working out with the weights again, Doc said to take it easy for a while, so probably gonna start after my next checkup.

I hadn't been to the doctor in a year so I was getting calls from his office to come in for a checkup. I checked all my meds to see what I needed to have him write a new scrip for and I was going to get an allergy pill since I sneeze for a day after I've been in the garden - I am allergic to anything that grows. Years ago, I gave myself shots in my leg and finally stopped that and stayed inside.

So, I went to the doctor. I put two Stevia leaves in a little plastic bag and labeled it. When I told him why I needed the allergy pills, I told him about the garden, that I had a container garden because plants died in the ground. Told him about net room, and gave him the bag. I thought he was going to kiss me over those two Stevia leaves. He just went bonkers about the net room as every time his wife's lemon tree has a lemon on it, a squirrel gets it. Told him just put a net over it, don't need a whole room for one plant.

Told him I had about 40 strawberry plants that should have strawberries in the spring and I have carrots and turnips and sweet potatoes growing. He was so excited, I thought he was going to go look at my container garden.

I wasn't expecting him to react like that. He said he could grow in containers, too, that he hadn't thought of it.

In between gardening talk, he did the prescriptions. Really, I wouldn't be surprised if he called me to talk more about container gardening.

One never knows what will happen when you go to the doctor.

As I was waiting to see him, there was a screen that kept changing showing the various doctors pictures there and their specialty and when his picture/name came up, it said he was elected the best physician in the county. I can tell you why that happened - he's the best looking doctor I ever saw.

LOL. That’s a nice report. I talk about my garden when I go to the Doc too. I laughs and says You’re a hoot.

When Sadler went bankrupt, my doctor went somewhere else. I asked Dr. Wilkerson, our Republican County Chairman, and one of the doctors who started Sadler Clinic, who to go to. He said Kyle Scarborough. Phone number 936-760-4600, Conroe Physician Associates. He is on the second floor of the old Sadler Building attached to Conroe Hospital. You will just have to put up with the fact that he’s pretty. You will find him easy to talk to. Here is his page at Conroe Physician Associates website:

I bit my lip and gave in 4 years ago and got into a handicap scooter at Wally. I just could not walk the big place no more. I do have a legit medical disability though, I just didnt want to give in and ride the store. It has made a huge difference, now I can take my time shopping and almost enjoy the trip, almost!

I know many freepers look down their nose at handicapped people getting scooters and preferred parking places, but their time will come. Sometimes peoples handicaps are not always visible. I look healthy and strong too; till you see me walk.

The time may come that I too will have to bite the bullet and ride in a scooter, but that day is not here yet. I’ll keep on keepin on as long as I can. I wouldn’t want to use a cart that someone else might need worse than me.

Thanks for the referral on the Dr. I may go to see him and see what he’s like.

I got 1/2” rain today in about 20 minutes.

“I got 1/2” rain today in about 20 minutes.”

It hasn’t rained here - that is just weird as close as we live to each other, and you get that and I get nothing.

While I was in the waiting room, their screen said they are accepting new patients and if you have a problem you need to see the doctor that day, they will make arrangements to see you. That surprised me - same day appointment. There are numerous specialty doctors in this group.
