NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) A North Texas woman was handcuffed, stripped down and booked into jail all because of an overdue traffic ticket.
Attorney Jason Smith told CBS 11 News though, theres nothing requiring the city to put people in jail. The constitution doesnt keep the government or government officials from using common sense. Unfortunately, some police officers, some governments get overly aggressive because they want that ticket revenue.

I live in front of an intersection. Four-way stop.
A lot of people don’t stop completely, especially if it’s obvious that no one is stopped on the cross traffic.
But it’s rare that someone just blatantly blows the stop sign. Well, rare that someone other than the police, just blatantly blows the stop sign.
Seems the police are above having to adhere to the traffic rules they enforce on the rest of us. Stop signs, speed limits, signalling before turning, driving while on a cell phone or texting, driving distracted. The police are the absolute worst offenders.

I watched a cop in CA flip his lights on just so he didn’t have to wait at a traffic light.
As soon as he got thru, lights went off and he rolled down the road at posted speed.

“Endures”?
What choice did she have?
Everything the government does is at inherent gunpoint.

A lot of people get tickets because the cop will say they didn’t come to a “complete” stop. Hard to fight without any proof. It’s a good revenue generator for the police.

Absolutely agree with you. And this comes from a background of growing up with and currently family in law enforcement. Times have sure changed, used to be law enforcement officers and their families set an example of law abiding behavior. Today, things have changed.....corruption and coverups rule. A shame.

She may not be innocent, but she certainly didn't deserve time in lockup.

"Unfortunately, some police officers, some governments get overly aggressive because they want that ticket revenue . .."Yes, that's why the citizen should sue the Police Unions instead of the municipalities. Hit THEM in the pocketbook and all of a sudden, Common Sense prevails.

She was leaving for work when she was arrested. I would think that the officer could have given her a chance to pay the fine before arresting her.

A lot of people get tickets because the cop will say they didnt come to a complete stop. Hard to fight without any proof. Its a good revenue generator for the police.
And don't bother trying to fight it. The police are "officers of the court" so they are presumed to be truthful and you are guilty unless you can otherwise prove innocence.
I got a ticket for failure to stop on my own street in front of my house. I stopped at the sign just before an old lady coming from my right. She actually didn't stop, rolled right through the intersection and I had to sit there and wait for her even though I had the right of way. There was no physical way I could have not stopped or I would have ran right into her.
But I'm one of those weirdos who actually stops at the white line and not blocking the sidewalk. I suspect the cop was sitting where he couldn't actually see me where I stopped legally - so he only saw me as I drove through the crosswalk and just assumed I didn't stop where I was supposed to.
I've had my share of tickets when I was younger, and I never had a problem paying them when I knew I was speeding. It's damn frustrating having to pay when you're innocent because the system is set up to make it impossible to contest. Doubly so when the enforcers are the worst violators.

I do not see a criminal in that face
I see a housewife type, having cried for some time because of the mistreatment, and submitting to a mug shot. That hairdo is right out of the 50's.

We should smarten-up and go the way of the Ruskies and mount a cheap dash cam. If you’re right, show the video at the trial and whatever you do, do not show it to the gestapo before the trial !
If you’re wrong, well, your BAD!
