Sydney tunnels have giant water holograms. [video only]

Basically, it appears that certain tunnel entrances in Sydney have a system that monitors the height of vehicles as they are approaching the tunnel entrance. If a vehicle such as a truck is too high to clear the roof of the tunnel a series of lighted signs warn the driver to stop. If the driver ignores these signs there is one final sign that appears. A curtain of water is sprayed down at the tunnel entrance and a huge STOP sign is projected onto it.

It's a good idea in my opinion and I can appreciate the thinking behind this effort.

Three points stand out to me:

1. It's a neat use of light and water to safely order a truck to stop.

2. Apparently some drivers really aren't paying attention.(Sleepy? Hypnotized by the road? etc.)

3.Why the h--- did Sydney build tunnels THAT close to the height of tractor trailers? It appears in the video that just one or two more feet of height and they're going to hit the ceiling. There's even a man in the video who alludes to the fact that whomever designed the tunnels didn't bother to ask trucking companies how high the tunnel should be to prevent such accidents.

Slick.

Although a solidly mounted steel barrier crossing the road at the proper height would stop any overheight vehicle no matter what.

A couple of plastic pipe suspended on changes works in many location for a lot less complications, expense and higher reliability.

A truck driver was driving along on the freeway. A sign comes up that reads “low bridge ahead.” Before he knows it the bridge is right ahead of him and he gets stuck under the bridge.

Cars are backed up for miles.

Finally, a police car comes up. The cop gets out of his car and walks around to the truck driver, puts his hands on his hips and says, “Got stuck, huh?”

The truck driver says, “No, I was delivering this bridge and ran out of gas.”
