Walmart to foot bill for food stamp spending spree fiasco sparked by computer glitch...

FULL TITLE: Walmart to foot bill for food stamp spending spree fiasco sparked by computer glitch - because they were supposed to stick to $50 limit per customer

WalMart will have to pay for hundreds of thousands of dollars of groceries bought by Louisiana food stamp recipients after a computer glitch gave them unlimited funds on their government-issued credit cards.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, which oversees the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card program in the state, said WalMart could have instituted an emergency $50 limit for each customer, but chose not to - and as a result, the retail giant must foot the sizable bill.

It comes after dozens of welfare families with EBT cards picked the shelves bare in stores in Springhill and Mansfield on Saturday and walked away with up to ten shopping carts filled with meat and other groceries - in a spending frenzy described by local officials as 'worse than Black Friday'.

There was a procedure to be followed and it wasn't. Maybe WalMart's minimum wage and invader labor wasn't up to the task. Heck, with WalMart salaries, a lot of their employees are on food stamps.

WalMart....you get what you pay for. Stockholders, it's just one of the costs of cheap, crummy labor. Deal with it.

There was never any chance at all that the customers would repay what was not rightfully theirs. There is zero chance that anybody will be prosecuted for using money that wasn’t theirs, for pushing carts out of the store without paying, or for leaving carts full of perishables in the store to rot.

This is what the left really wanted. A permanent underclass that feels entitled to whatever it can get and is dependent on the government.

Read the story. When other stores noticed the problem then enforced the limit or refused to take the EBT cards. It was Wal-Mart management who told the stores to let people buy as much as they want. Their glitch. Their decision. They get to foot the bill.

Their customers and stock holders will.

Exactly what I thought when I read this.

Hope Walmart has videos of those who did this “spree” and past it along to the police.

WalMart should not have allowed more than $50 of merchandise to be purchased. They did, so they are on the hook for the difference. Their decision and mistake.

Outright theft with no consequences.

I guess, the Obama Generation has a whole different set of personal ethics. My moral compass is obviously screwed up. You see, if I’m going thru a check out, and the check out person gives me 20$ or 50$ too much...are you ready for this? (whispering)...I point out the error and give the money back. I know what you’re saying. I’m a dumb@ss for thinking this way, but...hey...that’s me. I have something called a “bad conscience” that will follow me if I do something like “steal”....but the Obama Generation doesn’t consider this stealing. It’s just another entitlement.

Working folks love hearing about how the nonworking people on food stamps are eating better than they are.

Their customers and stock holders will.

Taxpayers too. I'm certain WalMart will write this off as a theft loss, or perhaps simply a loss. Either way they can write this off and taxpayers will subsidize this theft.

they knew damn well they were stealing and were telling others to get down here quick.
The cameras should be looked at and those thieves should be made to pay it back in work or their food stamps.

Walmart is dying. It caters to the lower class and when that class rapes it, Walmart ask for more.

Sorry but Walmart blew this bigtime.

I think Walmart made the smarter decision - what do you think would happen if Walmart refused those "people" or refused to process their "free lunch" cards?

Angry, violent acts from the gimmie-dats and then then Sharptons playing their favorite card game...

these freeloading last bums are now laughing at how much they got away with and why is it that most on food stamps are obese?

Yeah maybe.

I sure hope they changed their policy, as a result.

There are a lot of people who did not take advantage of Walmart during this mess, and they watched others who got off scott-free.

Not the lesson we want Americans to see.

Just saying.
