Of course, I do not own an AR-15, but I may consider one in the future -- provided they are legal, naturally!
But I like to prepare for future purchases. The rifle I am considering has no carrying-handle and no iron sights. I'd like freeper input on what sort of scope I should consider: Reflex / Holo with or without Fixed Power, a Fixed Power illuminated, or a variable power? Brands, prices, suggestions, all are welcome. The rifle would be for close to medium range target shooting (0-300 yards), especially 'action shooting' competitions. Price must be under or at 500. Would also be okay with something that worked 0-600 yds.
Their Elite series is a much higher grade of optic than their Philippine built models.

It’s just like a red dot only smaller. Plus you get a choice of reticules and sometimes a choice of color.
Here is an alternative to the Aimpoint if you are price sensitive.
Costs only $135 but, has some drawbacks. Still, the Nutnfancy guys still give it give it a thumbs up and a Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 8 out of 10

Hunting scopes - anything that say Leupold.
If you want an ACOG type scope without the ACOG prices check out NC Star.
EOTech comes in under 500 for the HWS system, but another 500 is needed for the magnifier. I have the basic setup and have the magnifier on my wish list. And I would say one thing.....don’t skimp on a purchase like this. You will only need to make it once and it should last a lifetime.
Forgot to add. I like the Eotech 512 because it takes AA batteries. Easiest batteries to get on the planet.....and cheap.

For what you want I would recommended the Bushnell 1.25-4x24 I.R. 30mm tube. at 1.25 with an illuminated recital it would be great for close up work. 4X would do well to 300yds on deer size targets.

For what range? CQB or sniper? I’d go either 1X with an Aimpoint or EOTech (or a cheaper knockoff) or a 4X fixed. Variables like 1-4X are bigger and heavier and take up too much rail space.
I would look at a 3X9 Nikon or a Leupold.
I have had lots of experience with inexpensive scopes.
Do Not Go There. Leopold has a good reputation. It is hard to beat a 3-9 variable for versatility.

Don't forget your irons. Glass breaks, batteries die, but if you have flip-up irons you're still good to go.
Holographic sights have been used in jet fighters since at least the early 1960’s.
I haven’t been in a fighter for twenty some years but the HUDs looked like reflections on glass to me.
I meant the gun sights.
