Scientist Says New Research Proves 'Dogs Are People Too'

Do you ever think that your dog knows exactly how you feel? It probably does. According to the Daily Mail U.K., Gregory Berns, a professor of neuroeconomics at Emory University, has discovered that dogs have emotions just like humans.
Through the use of MRI scans, Berns discovered that dogs and humans use the same part of their brains to feel. The professor started his research hoping to find out how a dog's brain works and what the animals think of humans.
In veterinary practices, dogs are put under an anesthetic to obtain an MRI so they don't become stressed by the procedure. For Berns' work, he needed his dog patients to be alert so he could observe their true brain functions. To overcome this obstacle, Berns and a dog trainer worked to teach the professor's dog to sit through an MRI simulator. After months of training and work with a real MRI machine, Berns and his dog were able to get the first maps of canine brain activity.

I agree. there's no doubt dogs can think and solve problems like humans. In many ways, they are more observant than humans in that they can tell by our body language that we're going to take them for a walk or go water the flowers. Our dog may not know what we're spelling, but he is hip to the fact that if we're spelling it, we're probably discussing something that interests him. He's still not a human (though as others have said, I prefer his company to many humans).
I read one anthropologist speculate that dogs may have done some training on us too.
Tests have shown that dogs recognize our 'signals' better and respond to them better than any of our close relative primates.
Exceptionally stupid people, mind you, but people nonetheless. :)

This is just another statist strategy to diminish the value of human life in order to put all power in the hands of the state.
These researchers most likely believe that they are furthering the interest of animal safety and welfare but the opposite is true. By diminishing the status of humans they are diminishing the power of the individual.
In diminishing the power and rights of the individual they increase the power of the state. A state with ultimate power will decide who can have pets what can and must be done with pets what will be required of pet owners.
Eventually having a pet will become so expensive because of the government requirements to owning a pet that only the wealthiest persons will be able to afford a pet.
Consider the regulations already in place for persons that keep animals for professional entertainment purposes (for example magicians); DOA onsite inspections, Emergency plans, special requirements for nutrition and storage of food.
Eventually these requirements will be mandatory for all pet owners.

Hmmmm. Not sure. Dogs get excited. Dogs get scared. Dogs get angry/defensive....
Dogs have personalities for sure. The question is, are their emotions connected to their thoughts. A dog will never feel bad about biting someone. But they may feel bad about upsetting an owner who has trained them otherwise. A potty trained dog will hide when it has an accident in the house. It remembers that the last time this happened a certain nose got rubbed on the carpet. Their behavior could be connected to what they expect will happen. They are reminded because the smell is still in the house. So the behavior goes on for extended periods of time. But what about when my dog whines and cries when the kids are out playing and she can't go out. What about the excitement they show for a car ride? If someone asks my dog if she wants to go for a ride, she'll go nuts for a VERY long time until you at least put her in the car and drive around the court. Then she's satisfied. She doesn't care for how long it is.
I have seen "spontaneous" emotion and looked for links to training or conditioning. I watch for the difference because it fascinates me and my dog does some amazing things now and then.
I like my dogs better than I like most people and yes, I’ll use whatever force necessary to defend and protect them.
I know for a fact that dogs have emotions and know and understand love.
When our GSD Max had bloat and we visited him after the surgery, I knew at that very moment, there was more to dogs than most people realize. He was on an emotional rollercoaster that to this day, I simply cannot describe to the fullest.
natural rights apply only to humans because only humans are rational animals and use reason as their means of survival.
But they are animals and if the house was on fire I had to make a choice between saving the step kids and saving the pets I would save the step kids no matter how worthless they are they are still human.
If we treat dogs as we would humans, the dogs will be unhappy and unhealthy. I like dogs, but there are special ways to relate with dogs and take care of them. Dogs are dogs. Cattle are cattle, and so on. Each animal has its needs and genetic protections against having various feelings of people.
Human beings also have constitutional rights in the U.S.A., BTW. Animals don’t, although we shouldn’t be cruel to animals. In agriculture before the human decline began, we did best by giving the best care suited for the animals. The robberies have already begun against farmers and ranchers by way of new, un-American laws and pretenses about animal worship.
While traveling in Britain, I stayed at a bed-and-breakfast which was owned by a small dog (you know that’s how they think). But this little mutt was listless because 5 days prior he had been right beside his much larger dog buddy when the larger dog was hit and killed by a car. The dog’s human pets said that they had been unable to rally his spirits. He performed his meet-and-greet functions with disinterest. I showered him with affection but the most he could do was place his jaw in my outstretched hand and sigh while relaxing his weight. He seemed to ‘need’ to communicate with people (which used to cheer him up?) or perhaps by then he was confused and didn’t know why he felt so bad but it certainly seemed like grief. His human pets said he was ordinarily the life of the party...

You’ve all see the videos of the dogs going insanely happy crazy when their war veterans owners come home?
I get the same reaction when I come home from food shopping.
OF COURSE dogs have emotions.

We don’t need expensive research to prove that dogs can tune in to a person’s feelings.
My dogs are smarter than my friend Steve. This weekend we go camping and Saturday night he decides to sleep in my car. he uses the power passenger seat until the battery is drained (I figured this out last night). I go to start the car after everything is packed up and click...click...click. He plays dumb.
I’m not amused.
Once you raise the value of animals to equate their worth to that of humans you have lowered the value of human life to that of an animal.
