In WWII, Japan's highest ranking naval officer was Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto. Although he was Japanese, and his loyalties were unquestionably with The Empire, he studied for many years in America, graduating from Harvard University.
There is an oft-repeated (and sometimes disputed) quote attributed to him regarding the possibility of any nation taking a war to American soil: "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."
Here is why he was correct: The state of Wisconsin recently completed an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great, considering there were over 600,000 hunters that got permits in 2010. Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world - more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined - deployed to the woods of a single American state to keep the deer population under control.

FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Need organization. Individually you’d be lost but collectively you’d have an advantage; unless of course everyone became an accomplished sniper. Then all bets would be off. I think that’s the way it would go.
A recent study showed that 1 in every 17 adult males in Michigan have handgun permits. That didn’t include women or the much higher number of guns that don’t require registration of any kind.
I would put the total number at 4 or 5 million.
To the deer, all these hunters are snipers.
Many hunters are skilled at sneaking around quietly, waiting patiently, and shooting to kill at long distances. Sound familiar?

A 17 year old boy terrorized the capitol region for weeks. Remember?
Sounds like a great weekend!
I’m one of the 17 Males in a Hundred With a Concealed Pistol License. It took me exactly Two Months, from my Training Class,to the Charlevoix County Gun Board,to receive it.
Hopefully, in this Screwed-up State, I won’t have to use it.
And that’s just the guns that they know about. The real numbers on actual firepower are much higher.
A little over 2 weeks until bow season in w central, FL. I’m getting ready and fattening some up with corn. I’ll start mixing in apples in a week.
No, not really. Didn’t hear about it. But then, down here ....
Oh yea - my uncle when teaching me about field craft had me build my own ghillie suit. No matter how good I concealed myself he’d always find me, but, he said I done good anyway.
Australia. But then you didn’t specify that it was the DC sniper.
Nice to see a ‘good news’ thread amongst all the other gloom !
This was probably the best thing I’ve read in a Long time!
Literally put a smile on my face.
Your thinking of the movie Last Of The Mohicans, where the Redcoats matched in formation instead of driving in humvees.
