Despite the palpable fear in the air I ventured out this morning and headed towards The City. Everything seemed calm- traffic flowing, street lights on- but I'm taking no chances. Even on Free Republic the normal early morning posts to the prayer threads and Religion Forum seem tense.
I figured the rioting won't start until dawn when the government workers who are oh-so-vital to keeping our society funcitoning on every single level don't show up.
Please post your updates as our society plunges into chaos, spins out of control, or whatever other cliche you'd like to use.

Hey, I “got” it...but think your anger (as pointed out by another) is misplaced....
You know this is the way FReepers handle situations like this...with sarcasm, wit and naughty comments.
We are retired military with a dear family member who is a fed worker...this will hurt us big time if it drags on...
But if you believe the govt is too big, mismanaged and used as a socialist tool, you suck it up, make arrangements and bitch to the people who are the problem....
The Weather Service must be shut down. The weather was supposed to clear by this morning, but it’s still raining.
I did notice the internet was running slow this morning. Must be the 39457934857349 people surfing the obamacare exchanges.... :)

I have a friend who is border patrol. Still required to show up for work but won’t be getting paid. They’re laughing hysterically.
I know people worried about their SSI checks and SNAP benefits.
I tell them “That’s up to Obama to decide if those are essential spending or not”
Toilet paper running low. Kids are using table napkins. Horde of Mongolian raiders just swept through stealing women and raping livestock. Jetliner just fell out of the sky and took out half a block of downtown. School is reportedly canceling Homecoming dance. No parking at Post Office. Daughter reports hair is “totally frizzy” and nascent zit on chin may derail Homecoming date. I didn’t have the heart to tell her it may be canceled anyway ...

In fact, they're not even thinking about them. I'll bet that if you're in an "exchange" state, and ask the first 25 folks you meet about going to an "exchange" you'll get a blank stare.
I think they think that their present health insurance position will continue on as is till the end of time.
Most people are ignorant of what's going on and what they have to do or not do....and I'm not faulting them as I think this inflicted ignorance is all part of the commie administration's Grand Design to destroy the middle class and ruin the lives of EVERYONE.

Can’t help but think, in answer to your question, if we were still a free market we would have self-select, portable, competitive, custom designed healthcare insurance....funny how we don’t.
Remember that only “non-essential” government is closed down, as determined by the President. So if you aren’t getting your SS checks and SNAP funds, it’s because the President determined that you are not essential.
