Earth could continue to host life for at least another 1.75 billion years, as long as nuclear holocaust, an errant asteroid or some other disaster doesn't intervene, a new study calculates.

We all make jokes.
But think for a minute.
Why would an article like this be published ?
What is the purpose of it ?
It’s not newsworthy. It has no bearing on our lives today.
Why ?
Rather than joke, I’m intending this as a serious question which will receive serious answers that would be intended to enlighten the reader as to why our mainstream news would continue to publish stories about the beginning and end of the earth, which has zero everyday practical application, ergo, it is not newsworthy for the general public.
