FULL TITLE: REVEALED: Gunman, 34, who murdered TWELVE and injured 15 in Washington Navy Yard rampage was decorated petty officer who left military in 2011 after previous gun charge
While the motive of Aaron Alexis, the heavily armed gunman who shot dead at least 12 people in cold blood this morning at the Washington Navy Yard has not been revealed, speculation is growing his dismissal from the U.S. Navy for 'misconduct' in January 2011 may have inspired him to commit a deadly revenge.
Alexis, 34, has been revealed to have a prior arrest for letting a gun off that could have harmed his neighbor while he cleaned his own weapon at home in Fort Worth, Texas, 2010.
Despite the lack of acknowledged motive, one U.S. official has been quoted as saying Alexis was kicked out of the Navy in 2011 for 'misconduct' as a direct result of his gun arrest three years ago.
Law enforcement said that Alexis' identity was confirmed by fingerprints and that he served in the U.S. Navy between May 5th, 2007 and January 31st, 2011, the date he was dismissed from the service.
He was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal prior to his discharge in January 2011.
A U.S. Navy spokesman said that Alexis was an 'aviation electrician's mate' - ranked as a third class petty officer and served at the Naval Air Station in Fort Worth, Texas.

They are, nonetheless, official decorations and are thus listed on one’s DD-214.
Buddhism or Islam?
Pray America is Waking UP
Appears he got a general discharge. OK but not honorable. What’s up with that? Only made it to E-4. Is that normal for that length of time? Something’s not right.
Thank you sir for your response,
I mean, it just sounded like the “truth stranger than fiction” type of deal, not a reflection on our nation’s military at all.
Also, relative of mine, was indeed a Petty Officer in the Navy as well.
Just a surprising twist.
Unrelated to your post but:
I think also as someone said, we might be looking at someone with “Caribbean Roots”, Jamaica, Barbados, think the guy who shot up “Freddy’s Fashion Mart”(?) was a Jamaican or Caribbean type.
i’ve missed the spin this afternoon...
are they saying there was only one person? this morning they were saying 2 people shot with a third barricaded
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal
Decorations only that don't mean squat..;........I got one of them and like I said, it don't mean squat.
That is not "decorated". Everyone who served in Iraq or Afghanistan or elsewhere got those after 9/11, if they performed "administrative, logistics, planning, operational, technical, or readiness activity" related to the "war on terror".

To say the least!
I’m sorry,..I forgot,..it’s the Navy....
All Marines are trained Marksmen (min), do they at least train all sailors to patch holes in leaking bulkheads?
Matt Drudge, I don’t always agree with him but generally he’s alright but I really don’t know as is predictable with him, he should put the guy’s picture up just like Drudge put up the picture of the guys in England who beheaded soldier Drummer Rigby. In this instance, I don’t know if Matt should be doing this. I suppose it’s the hot news of the moment.
Airman Apprentice is an E-2; Airman = E-3

Is is typical with these types of events, pretty much everything the media reported in the first few hours has been shown to be wrong.
In the Smoking Gun article linked from Drudge, he claimed he'd been cooking, his hands were greasy, and the gun slipped while he was cleaning it. The article went on to say:
"The woman, whose name is not listed in a Fort Worth Police Department report, said that she was 'terrified' of Alexis, who had previously confronted her about making too much noise. The woman, who was 'visibly shaken up' when questioned by police, said that she believed the shooting was 'intentional.'
It also said: "Asked why he did not notify police or check on the welfare of his upstairs neighbor, Alexis said that he 'didnt think it went all the way through since he couldnt see any light through the hole.' Additionally, 'In regards to the noise he said he thought that people would just think it was a firecracker.'
As well: "In early-July [no year given], a male roommate of Alexiss called Fort Worth cops to report his suspicion that Alexis put unknown substance in gas tank to damage vehicle, according to a July 5 report."
And: "Alexis was arrested for disorderly conduct in August 2008 in DeKalb County, Georgia. He was released from custody after posting $364 bond (and posing for a booking photo). The details and disposition of the misdemeanor case could not be obtained."
Looks like the guy has had a series of incidents over the years.
He looks gay.
If I wanted to be a secret Muslim...Thailand would be a good choice.
Early on I said...looks similar to The Sniper pair whom I believe were well paid to shoot up DC.
News here says he lived outside Seattle for awhile and had a gun incident while here.
It serves the only available liberal meme. He wasn't Tea Party, so it must be that he was a crazy decorated vet with post traumatic stress disorder who went nuts. Therefore, we need to prevent veterans from owning guns after they are discharged.
There’s another picture of him at Fox 5 DC (front page). . .
