Still waiting on a return call from my doc. I fell shortly after 4 pm today, ambulance personnel put me on a backboard with a cervical collar (neck brace). I spent 2 hours on a gurney, in the hospital hallway like that until the doc agreed to sign off and get me off the board. Then he ordered a CT scan and didn't even talk to me. 5 hours total, never put in a room, had the CT and put back in the hallway. Begged for some icechips because I was so dry it hurt...they refused saying the test had to be done and the results received before I could have a drink.

Doc comes back and says "CT scan shows nothing wrong so you are being released". I said "what about my legs, I can't move them, I can't stand" He said "The scan shows nothing wrong we can't and wont keep you, and we will help you out" I asked what was I suppose to do when we got home since nobody can carry me, and they didn't answer. I don't understand...why would he not check my reflexes, my pulse, ANYTHING?

This does not sound right, and you were not given the proper care in that hospital. I’ve been to the ER in several hospitals and have never been treated like that, and my situation was much less severe than yours. If you went to the ER on a Friday, it is now Saturday. I don’t know if your insurance requires 24 hours or just a separate day. If it’s the latter, then go now. If they need 24 hours and you don’t want to risk having to pay, then go ahead and call your doctor to get referred to another ER. It’s night, but either your doctor or another doctor will be on call. You can also contact your insurance company and explain the situation to them to see if you would be covered. If I were you, I think I’d go to the next ER because there is something wrong when you can’t move your legs and you are being sent home like there is nothing wrong. There is something wrong, and that’s why you can’t move your legs. I’ve had enough experiences with doctors to know that they don’t know everything, and they can give you the wrong diagnosis.

You are in my prayers.

I'd go to another ER ASAP.

I had a cat scat where they couldn't even find a kidney stone, 10 minutes later they found it at another ER.

Husband's friend was having a stroke and the ER doc was going to put him in an ER room for “observation”. If the doctor my husband knew hadn't taken over and ordered an immediate cat scat, he would have died within minutes from a severe aneurysm.

Omnipotent and eternal God, the everlasting Salvation of those who believe, hear us on behalf of Thy sick servant, TRussell, for whom we beg the aid of Thy pitying mercy, that, with her bodily health restored, she may give thanks to Thee in Thy church. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

I have a question not meant to be rude. Are you on Medicare? The ER treatment sounds horrific, almost like if they couldn’t find anything wrong immediately, they couldn’t ‘treat’ and get paid for it.

I’ll relate an experience not so bad as yours but it does say something about injuries, etc. I woke up one morning after a prior day’s discomfort in my left foot. Extreme pain almost like I’d really broken it good - in fact, that’s what I thought it was. The orthopedist who’d last treated that same foot for being broken would not even give me an appointment; his admin said go to the ER or your GP.

I did go see my GP because I didn’t want to pay $3000 for an Xray. He looked at it, asked me questions and then he said I’ll write you something for the pain. It wasn’t narcotic, it was an anti-inflammatory drug he called “Indosyn” Generic is inodomethacin.

I took one pill that night and whatever swelling had been there to cause the nerve pain was completely gone and I could freely walk on it.

I consider this episode nothing short of miraculous. The side effect is that you have to eat something with the pill or it will give you the worst case of heartburn you’ve likely ever had.

So my advice is to go to square one and see your GP. You never know, it might be something just as simple as my case ultimately turned out to be.

I have a very similar situation but with my arms. They're not immobilized but they're weak like they would be after a hard workout and my hands and arms fluctuate between being numb and tingling like they do when you sleep on them and cut the circulation off.

I got the same thing at the ER. The way they hustled me out after a CT scan I'm surprised no one kicked me in the chest and yelled, "This is Obamacare" sending me sailing into the parking lot.

I've talked to three Chiropractors and they want to see me to make a "treatment plan" then actually do something a week or so later. This "treatment plan" costs from $400 to $700 and only when it's paid for does the treatment begin.

So, it's sometimes painful, always weak and uncoordinated hands until I can find an alternative, probably after I see my doctor in early October.

You're in my prayers for sure.

Regards

I sympathize, trussell. A year ago I went to ER with something intense, and intensely painful too. A friend had to carry me out after many hours of waiting for a doctor. They did absolutely nothing for the injury, gave me an EKG though I’d just had one a few weeks before — and the injury had nothing whatsoever to do with heart or circulation — and when I tried to refuse it they said no EKG, you’re out of here immediately.
They do what they can get easy money for, and what a nurse can do. I represented nothing but an opportunity to rake in some cash.
They sent a bill later, and when I tried to refuse to pay on the grounds that I received no treatment at all for what brought me to the ER, and was also threatened while in horrible pain...they threatened to sue me.

It will do nothing for your immediate health concern, I think, but get a lawyer fast.
See another doctor, and perhaps the lawyer can suggest one.
What happened to you was, IMO, par for the course. Not surprising at all.

Prayers that you get the help you need to reduce the pain as quickly as possible!

The hospital ERs are pretty much useless unless you are dripping blood all over their floors! Really.

You need reevaluated now! Call your back doctor or primary and them admit you if that's what it takes.

Do not go to a chiropractor.

You may have swelling that is impinging on the nerves or it may be bone but you need to get it looked at by a competent specialist.

Prayers for your recovery.

I have a fused spine as well, from an old motorcycle crash. I do worry about falls and such since I have no way to flex and absorb the shock.

Hang in there. May be no more than a pinched nerve from the shock. Not a small thing, but not permanent?
