Although the launch was nearly flawless, LADEE ran into some trouble right after its separation from the Minotaur V. The probe's onboard computer shut down LADEE's reaction wheels, which are used to stabilize the attitude of the probe in space, after noticing that they were drawing too much current.
Engineers will work to develop a repair plan over the next few days. But there's not a great deal of time pressure at the moment, Worden said. LADEE will take nearly a month to get to the moon on its long and looping route.
"The nice thing about this is that we have two ways to orient [LADEE]," Worden added. "One is with thrusters, the other is with reaction wheels. So we're pretty confident that we're going to get it in the right state."

This mission is at least in keeping with the original mission directive of NASA which is one federal agency that actually operates on a shoestring budget.
I wish more of our federal agencies operated with NASA efficiency.
Look at the money blown by the social security administration on a daily basis and get back to me and then we can start talking about welfare.
NASA has accidents in an extremely tough environments and other agencies are designed for failure right here on earth.
How is this mission in keeping with Obama’s directive of muslim outreach?
Its pretty amazing how many problems they can solve at a distance.
Just yesterday I read that the New Horizons team was awaiting the arrival of the original glass plate photos of Pluto’s discovery. Apparently they’re using them to calculate exactly where Pluto will be for the New Horizons flyby in 2015 and make final trajectory adjustments for the closest possible pass.
