Eating too much red meat could trigger Alzheimer’s, suggests new research.

Scientists found that a buildup of iron—abundant in red meat—could cause oxidant damage, to which the brain is particularly vulnerable. Researchers say this could in turn increase the risk of Alzheimer’s.

Professor George Bartzokis, of UCLA in the United States, said that more studies have suggested the disease is caused by one of two proteins, one called tau, the other beta-amyloid. …

I will certainly take my chances on that. I do prefer red meat that is not doped up on hormones, though.

Everything we eat and drink is bad in some way.

I quit worrying about it some time ago. I think I’ll just go down in a blaze of glory.

Many people that have exercised, ate right, never smoked or drank...will at sometime be laying in a hospital bed dying and asking...why???

Every day I live, I’m one day closer to death. Somehow I’ve learned to live with this thought. Unfortunately, others have not come to grips with this. I will continue to eat red meat (and bacon) and enjoy life.

An excessive amount of parathyroid hormone causing too much calcium to be taken out of the bones and sent to the brain could damage it, too.

Why live? Why bother? We’re all going to die some day. I’ll at least enjoy a bunch of slaughtered cows before I go.

Eggs: first good, then bad, now good again.

Salt: same thing

Red Meat: good, bad, good, bad

Blah blah blah effity effing blah.

The VERY FIRST thing a reader has the responsibility to do when they see the words “study, researchers, scientists” is to find out exactly WHO these people are, WHO they work for, and WHERE the funding for the “study” came from.

Many times, the word academician, scientist, researcher, etc. can be equated to “intellectual whore.”

Ha!....”Center”......for me this brings up memories....

For the last 30 odd years, I was closely aligned to higher learning establishments and got to see the intricacies, foibles, and realities of many different college units.

“Centers” are indeed a curious thing. Often, the aren’t established well enough (read long-lived, permanently funded) to become a line-unit/department of the University/College, but there is some value seen in aggregating efforts in a particularly possible lucrative issue or area.

So, these “Centers” will get arbitrarily established under and University line unit or department and left to fend for itself (e.g., grants, contracts, donations, etc.). In a lot of cases, they are only one or two people. People that usually the department doesn’t have anything else worthwhile for them to do because they can’t teach or research for crap. You then find these people just ‘out there’ publishing all sorts of studies and papers making ‘headline worthy’ claims...gotta get some sugar daddy hooked.

Lastly, then you have “Centers” that have nothing to do with a college or University. These are the political entities masquerading as academicians. Their goals are to get funds (usually from the government) to push some political agenda.

That is certainly true, but their prime directive is FUNDING. As I implied earlier, the term “intellectual whore” is certainly operative, and most would be perfectly happy in adeptly re-concluding an earlier study for the right price. It’s politics of a sort, but really based on who with what political bent is paying.

to push some political agenda

Futterneid is a German word meaning food envy. This is what a leftist vegetarian feels when a conservative carnivore feasts a big piece of red meat. A remarkable amount of food politics is nothing more than veiled futterneid.

Close your eyes and you can see the Pork Packers Of Poughkeepsie meeting with a pointy haired food nerd saying "We need a study that shows red meat bad, pork good. How much will it cost us?"

I will believe a study when the claims they are making are based on infusions of the amounts and types of offending substances are taken by the researchers themselves, and that poor little rat they’ve overdosed with a dozen/hundred lifetime’s exposure is left alone, for once.
