We've decided to take a weekly look at a word or phrase that's caught our attention, whether for its history, usage, etymology or just because it has an interesting story.
NOTE TO READERS: This is a post about one of the harshest racial slurs in American English. In the interest of forthrightness, we're going to use the slur throughout this essay. In other words, you'll see "nigger" used throughout the essay. We understand that the word is upsetting, so we wanted to offer people a chance to opt out now
You can set your watch to it. Every few months, some person of note gets in trouble for saying nigger. This summer's been especially busy: In the last eight weeks, we've had controversies involving former NFL player Hugh Douglas, current NFL player Riley Cooper, Trayvon Martin's friend Rachel Jeantel, the comedian Tim Allen and disgraced TV food personality Paula Deen.
After each incident, after the perfunctory opprobrium is directed at the person who initially used the word, comes the invariable call for everyone — particularly in hip-hop — to stop using the word nigger. But I always wonder, given its widespread use (and the myriad ways in which people use it): How would stamping it out even work?

first by banning the derivatives, nigflic for instance to describe the Oprah’s current movie should be banned
The Left isn’t so concerned about stamping out the use of the slur “fascist” when it comes to politicians who are anything but.
I’m offended by the word “whites”. I am a person. My color is typically identified as “white” although I am not albino. However, I am not “a white”. I am not a color. I am a person (of limited color).
Most facist notions from the Leftist Thought Police.
“...I see plenty of people of all colors where that word can apply.”
Applicable to not the people themselves, but to a human condition?
Use it gratuitously, especially directed towards those most offended, until it loses it’s shock value and they cease being offended.
I would pick a week and promote everyone use it on everyone, call everyone, white, black, brown, red, “nigger”. Then it wouldn’t mean anything anymore.
People have simply changed the pronunciation to make it easier to say.
Our local co-op carries a dog food.
GRIMALDI’S DOG FOOD! (It shows a bulldog in boxing gloves hitting something.)
WOPPING TO PLEASE!
DAGO FOR GRIMALDIS!
Never happen.
And certainly NOT while we have a Marxist president who’s intent on ruining the economy and confiscating all wealth in the nation for all his half-arsed projects.
Kind of hard to do. It is entwined so much with history
I have black friends and we are in total agreement that there are "white niggers" just as there "black niggers". It is not a matter of color, it is a matter of character. Trash is as trash does and that is not limited to any one particular race.
Po white trash, trailer trash, "wigger" maybe we should start showing solidarity by adopting our own terminology? Then we'd all know what we're talking about...

GtG
Ya, good luck with that. It’s not a word, it’s a convenient scab to pick off when ever you need some grievance money...
For instance, IF the "n" word was made illegal, how many people of each color would be fined and/or incarcerated for using it?
