I have a bush just like this one. It has been so pretty this season but its dying back a little now....fall and winter are on the way, I guess. Love fall but dreads what comes later!! It needs to be trimmed back a lot....hope I can get my sons to trim it for me. I had some men trim my front shrubbery recently and wish I had remembered that bush.

Almost Content?

September 5, 2013

As I stepped into the restaurant parking lot after lunch, I saw a pickup truck speeding through the parked vehicles. While observing the driver’s reckless behavior, I noticed the words on the truck’s front license plate. It read, “Almost Content.” After thinking about that message and the sentiment it tried to communicate, I concluded that the concept “almost content” doesn’t exist. Either we are content or we are not.

Admittedly, contentment is a tough needle to thread. We live in a world that feeds our desire for more and more—until we find it almost impossible to be content with anything. But this is nothing new. The book of Hebrews addressed this issue, saying, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” (13:5). The only remedy for hearts that “want it all” is the contentment found in the presence of the living God. He is sufficient for our needs and longings, and He alone can bring us the peace and contentment we’ll never find in the pursuits of this life.

Almost content? There is no such thing. In Christ we can know true contentment.

I find contentment in His wondrous grace,
No cloud or shadow can obscure His face;
When great temptations I must bear,
I find the secret place of prayer. —Dunlop
Contentment is not getting what we want but being satisfied with what we have.

Read: 1 Timothy 6:6-12

Be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” —Hebrews 13:5

Oh my!! Did I need to read this at the start of this day.
What truth, and if we ponder this, as American’s we have committed gross sins of discontent with “ things”.

Our younger generation is hopelessly trapped in “ Thingism “.

Thank you again Russ for posting this to start our day.

I love this, Meg. The ocean is so soothing just to walk by it or sit and watch the waves coming in and out. If that was me, I would be dressed more comfortable “for getting wet”....LOL! I think the salt water is good for us, too. We had many good times at the beach as we spent our vacation there yearly! We always dreaded to leave it.

Hope your day is going well! I gotta get busy today on my paper work. Have much to do! Its my least favorite job but I feel good when I’m all finished!

I hate to think how long it had been since those beds were thoroughly vacuumed under.
I did get the cat hair brushed off the bed skirts snd lundered them...Thankfully they have favorite spots to go in and out from under the bed..less areas to brush.
;o)

Here is one that had been floating around in my head for months... Finished recently. For those of you not familiar with middle Tennessee, its geography is mostly rolling hills. It is a wonderful place to live, and was an awesome place to grow up.

"Sage Grass and Cedar"

All little cowboys, with size five boots...
A stick horse at the reins,
A pointed finger that would shoot.
We chased the bad guys across backyard plains.
We were young and never freer.
We lived out adventures of our Old West...
Out in our sage grass and cedar.

But time went by,
Those old cowboys died.
We re-fought our fathers' war.
There were different bad guys this time around,
There were Nazis at our door.
So our baseballs became our hand grenades,
And BB guns our Garands.
But we all went home at supper time
Knowing our fathers had kept us freer.
We'd fight their war again tomorrow,
Out in our sage grass and cedar.

But just like the cowboys,
Those soldiers did fade.
We've each grown up,
We each make our way.
There's the family and job,
Heavy traffic and mobs...
We've forgotten what it's like
To be freer.
There are wrongs to make right,
It is time to stand and fight,
For Freedom in the sage grass and cedar...
