"Sage Grass and Cedar"
All little cowboys, with size five boots...
A stick horse at the reins,
A pointed finger that would shoot.
We chased the bad guys across backyard plains.
We were young and never freer.
We lived out adventures of our Old West...
Out in our sage grass and cedar.
But time went by,
Those old cowboys died.
We re-fought our fathers' war.
There were different bad guys this time around,
There were Nazis at our door.
So our baseballs became our hand grenades,
And BB guns our Garands.
But we all went home at supper time
Knowing our fathers had kept us freer.
We'd fight their war again tomorrow,
Out in our sage grass and cedar.
But just like the cowboys,
Those soldiers did fade.
We've each grown up,
We each make our way.
There's the family and job,
Heavy traffic and mobs...
We've forgotten what it's like
To be freer.
There are wrongs to make right,
It is time to stand and fight,
For Freedom in the sage grass and cedar...

Indeed..and Amen..Thank you for the poetry, Raven6
Thank you for your wonderful poetry, Raven6. So glad you love Tennessee like I do. I was born and raised in Tennessee (Bristol). I moved away a few short times due to my hubby’s employment. We moved to Radford once and lived there 8 years. Loved that little town, also.....met lots of great friends there and am still in touch with a few. We also had a move to Roanoke for a few years but always landed on our feet back in Tennessee. Have been back in Tennessee a good many years now and always loved being HOME!
I agree the rolling hills, brooks and streams, could never be more beautiful than they are here. So glad to meet you my fellow Tennessean! Lots of good folks live in Tennessee, as you already know.
Have a wonderful day, my friend!
I love that! Thank you so much for sharing your poetry. I’ve never had the good fortune to live in Tennessee, but I’ve traveled through your beautiful rolling hills. I remember lush green pastures dotted with horses and criss-crossed with white fences. Lovely country.
Please come by again and often with your poems. You are welcome here, Raven6!
