Man dies after attempting backflip at beach

An Austin man died after hitting his head while trying to do a backflip near the lakeshore in the Gold Coast neighborhood, authorities said.
Terrence Mauldin was with his 23-year-old nephew when he attempted a backflip off a three-foot-high retaining wall south of North Avenue Beach around 7:20 p.m., police said. Mauldin landed head-first on the concrete, according to police.
