Name the BEST and the WORST (in your opinion) of the Rush Limbaugh guest hosts when he is absent from the EIB airwaves. Here is my humble opinion:
The BEST guest host is Mark Steyn who substituted for El Rushbo yesterday. Usually I miss listening to Rush but Steyn is so good that he actually makes for an enjoyable break. His wit and polished accent makes for good listening.
The WORST guest host had to be Bill Cunningham. Thankfully, I think I only heard him once and that was one time too many. Cunningham's delivery throughout the show was like one long LOUD screech. Painful on the ears and it actually started to give me a headache.
I also remember another guest host whose name is thankfully forgotten who spent a big chunk of the show ignoring current events in favor of playing silly number (or word) games on the air but Cunningham stands out in memory as truly annoying.
I too liked B-1 Bob. He imparted information, not just his opinions.
I very much enjoyed his stories about Southern California in the go-go ‘60s, and his Air Force stories.
He reminded me of a dad from one of those 1960s TV shows set in SoCal.
Mark Steyn is like a standup comic - he’s delivering punchlines every 10 seconds or so.
Rush’s style is much more that of a raconteur - he’s going to take you down a stroll down the garden path, meandering along the way, all to get you to the secret pond or the spring that you’ve not seen before. You have to stick with Rush for the entire journey and in the end it’s worth it.
Totally different styles but I put them equal. All the others are not in the same class imho.
I was trying to think of his name. From Dallas? I tune him out.
Mark Steyn, 1st.
Mark Belling 2nd.
Jason Lewis 3rd. He's no longer eligible, has his own national show.
Oh, Walter Williams, great teacher.
Leni
I too am in the camp that should Limbaugh cut back Limbaugh M,W and F and Steyn T,Th would be a great change of pace. Other than Steyn and Williams I too get other things done when Limbaugh is not on the air.
Mark Davis is the worst.
Agreed.
B-! Bob, The only conservative that could out talk a liberal.
These lib TV personalities usually out talk, over talk, generally prevent a conservative from getting a word in edgewise.
B-1 could easily handle them .
He was an encyclopedia of military history and weaponry
Man, I miss him.
The worst was Mike Rosen from KOA/Denver. There’s a reason he only filled in once. What a snoozer.
Mark Steyn for the win. Cutting wit and sublime commentary.
future hosts I’d like to hear: Greg Gutfeld, Andy Levy, and I’ll tell you who really needs to be national is Dana Loesch.
I love, love, love Mark Steyn, but he does not have a great voice, or accent even. My mom-in-law and I always liked Walter Williams.
Geraldo Rivera has had some guy subbing for him, Jerry (or something) O’Connor, I take it he’s from WMAL in DC since I was down there and heard him. It’s weird that’s he’s on for Geraldo because he seems to be very conservative, and it’s also weird because to me he sounds just like Geraldo. The first time I heard him on I thought Geraldo had had some kind of conservative epiphany.
DINGDINGDING!
We have a winner!
If I remember correctly, Rush actually cut his vacation short to get that train-wreck off his air.
Absolute catastrophe!
On a side note I once heard Eleanor Clift subsititue for Howie Carr...a great Boston talk host.I got through to talk to her....all I'll say about that chat is "what a pig she is".
Steyn has the absolutely indominatable and irresistable ability to make me crack the heck up even when I am in my most depressed moods. He is simply a genius. I am not sure I would like him 100% replacing Rush, because maybe the free-floating free-association comic routine would get old. But he comes up with wordplay things with his completely disarming delivery that I simply cannot resist LMAO over.
Mark Steyn should have his own show.
Willie Cunningham has screeched his way to two Marconi Awards.
The best substitute: Walter Williams
The worst substitute: Mark Davis
Mathews was terrible and got bounced. Since then he’s beet truly bitter and ugly.
Rosen was the guy that got me into talk radio in the late 80’s. also used to like Tom Martino.....and B-1 Bob. And Michael Reagan.
It was interesting, because Hedgecock did a fine job, he talked about some of the things that were big in San Diego but had not become hot nationally, like immigration. When Rush came back, he made a dig at him, called him Hedgehog. I was disappointed, it seemed like he was concerned about a rival looking good and going farther than he wanted. Hedgecock turned out to be prescient on a number of issues.
