More than 35 percent of U.S. adults and 17 percent of children and teens now have a disease, after the American Medical Association formally voted Tuesday to classify obesity as a disease requiring a range of medical interventions.
The shift is aimed in part to get doctors to tackle obesity as if they were treating a disease instead of a lifestyle condition in need of modification.
Recognizing obesity as a disease will help change the way the medical community tackles this complex issue that affects approximately one in three Americans, Dr. Patrice Harris of the AMA said in a statement.
Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI)a ratio of height over weightof 30 or higher. People are considered normal weight if they have a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9.

I foresee a bill of rights after some sort of reboot starting with the words:
We hold these truths to be self evident. Human privacy being an integral part to the public welfare, No citizen or its artificial equivalent may hold information about another citizen or artificial equivalent for any reason except they both agree. Moreover, the people and their artificial equivalents shall be safe from divulging information unless compelled to do so by a court of law AND a jury of their peers.
Or some such equivalent.
This is totally insane.
Alcoholism was also declared a “disease,” which is why street winos have probably been able to get drunk and keep up their habit after getting their fat disability checks from Uncle Sam.
Can they claim disability now?
Can they challenge higher insurance rates and higher plane seating charges?
DH is 5’ 11.5” and weighs 190. His BMI is 26, which is in the (barely) *overweight* category. Ridiculous. He would be skeletal if he weighed 5 pounds less. I have seen him at 185 and, IMO, it is too thin.
I, OTOH, am 5’3” and weigh 130 and my BMI is 23 or *normal*, yet, I could stand to lose 5-7 pounds.
Many years ago my mother went to the doctor because she got really overweight. He put her on a diet. It was simple....don't eat like a pig. She lost wait and learned to sustain....No breakfast!! Just black coffee!!
It doesn’t dawn on them that their food is grown in real sh** instead of “artificial” fertilizers.
can’t believe I wrote “she lost wait?’’’’’ She lost WEIGHT...geez...maybe time for my nap
DH and I knew this was coming and are the way to losing weight. He has lost 69pounds and is close to goal, on his own, too. I’m losing, but slowly. They will not to be able to deny us due to weight, only civil rights like religion, race and politics.
And don’t think that won’t happen. I have complained and quit shopping at stores when they won’t allow you the sale price if you are not willing to give them all your personal shopping habits.
They have used those cards to help solve crime. Idiots buy items to aid in murder or hiding the body, the video isn’t clear enough for ID, they use their card to save a buck, and there you go!
The fascists want “data” made mandatory to live and eat. To buy and sell. To have friends and children. Etc
666...
But what if they buy all that junk and are still thin? Still have an acceptable BMI?
But being obese has no effect whatsoever on lifespan. That’s determined by many different other factors.
