Fox News interviewed a lady from Rotten Tomatoes about the weekend box office and she was perplexed about the number of negative reviews. She loved the movie.
IMO, the
Superman character is so ingrained into society that everyone has their own opinion as to how he should be portrayed. It's doubtful you'd ever get universal praise or criticism, not matter how good or bad a movie about him might be.
Remember, some folks loved
Superman Returns.

I’m going to see it tomorrow. I have two friends who’ve already seen it and they gave it very good marks.
It seems that most of the critics who have panned it wanted it to be more like Richard Donner’s “Superman.” Well, that was a very good film. But it has already been done, and “Superman Returns” showed us what happens when you try to make it again.

I just saw it. Not bad at all. MILES better than previous Superman movies, which were mostly unwatchable. Some of the fight scenes had too many fast action closeups, but all in all a good movie. It took decades but technology can finally do justice to superhero movies.

I liked Superman Returns, but I hated Broadway Lex Luthor. I was convinced that Kevin Spacey was going to break out in a song.

A guy I work with saw this movie and gave it a hearty thumbs up. I might just have to go see it.

Comments from last night's premiere postings on another thread...
All in all my wife & I liked it - really good story and character development actually, and good casting - especially Superman. I liked it a lot more than expected.
However, for a 2:28 minute movie they could have cut out at least 28 minutes of gratuitous property and building smashing and explosions, still had tons of such action left, and the movie would have lost nothing.
I swear if they'd smashed another couple dozen buildings more than the couple thousand they smashed throughout the movie, I would have lost it. Toward the end when they got tired of trashing all the cities on Earth and decided to take the fighting into orbit and start smashing satellites, I almost started laughing.
Regardless, a good movie overall and probably the best Superman movie yet. I'd recommend it.

Best Superman movie ever!

FWIW, the Superman books introduced one of the first gay characters in comics back in the 1980's.

I saw it this afternoon.
All these good reviews surprise me.
If a good movie is all about effects and choreography, and wall to wall fist fighting then the movie was great.
Plotwise it totally bombed
There was hardly ANY character development
There was 10 times more alien technology than there was Superman saving the day.
Too many flashbacks to cover early years.
WAY too much collateral damage. NO WAY all those buildings fall without killing thousands of people. Virtually nothing left of the city which Superman didn’t seem to mind punching holes in. Where did all the people go??? the city looked like a nuke hit it, but no dead people on the streets.
WAY too much emphasis on Zod and this new element of Kryptonians being a bunch of test tube breeders.
I was totally disappointed in it overall.

Loved it. Loved the character development but really loved the Christian imagery.
