RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) As Fathers Day approaches, children are reminded to appreciate their dads and the impact on their lives.
Today dads around the city were honored a week in advance of Fathers Day. Celebrate Fatherhood 2013 was held this afternoon at the Collegiate School Aquatics Center. While these dads and their children enjoyed the moon bounce and competed in contests, an alarming amount of children in the area wont have fathers around to celebrate the holiday.
First Things First, an organization dedicated to keeping dads involved in kids lives, reports that 60 percent of all families in the city of Richmond are single-parent households. Within the African-American demographic, that number spikes up to 86 percent, a number that surpasses the national average.

I haven’t met many black Catholics either. Wonder why that is?
All hail MOD, the Great and Powerful!
To avoid melees outside after mass?
Before or after. :)

Also note:
Non-Hispanic whites account for 69.1 percent of the U.S. population, according to the 2000 Census data. However, because the non-white population is heavily clustered in relatively few counties, the average U.S. county has a population that is 79.6% non-Hispanic white.

14% of black families have two parents, never knew it was that high....
AKA...The Fatherland instead of the father.
I used to gag at all the posts in 2008 about how Zer0 had "set back race relations (x) years."
When I was a kid, we used to go to downtown Richmond to Thalhimer’s and Miller & Roads to see the Christmas displays in the windows. Such a shame. Even Monument Avenue has been defaced. Sad.
LOL. Just so fitting.
Yup...and the breadwinner in most of these households are the poor suckers who, like us,get up 5 (or more) days a week and spends 8 hours (or more) at the office/plant.
“Your population statistics may not match the statistics for numbers of families with kids(with or without fathers).”
I used the census numbers for demographics, however kids may not be spread equally among demographic groups. So your right, it may not be accurate. You could look at the average age in each demographic group and get a better picture.
Thanks, BTW. I wasn’t up to figuring it out this morning...
