Colorado secede? Counties weigh exit plan to form state of 'North Colorado'

Colorado secede? It sounds implausible, but the idea of counties withdrawing from one state to form a new one isn’t impossible. But some big hurdles – like the US Constitution – make it very difficult.

It’s an uphill climb that looks Rocky Mountain high, but a collection of independent-thinking counties may mount an effort to secede from the rest of Colorado and form their own new state.

The idea is rooted in the political rift that many Coloradans – especially rural ones – feel with a Denver-based state legislature that has taken a liberal turn in recent years.

A new state, if it formed, might be called North Colorado.

Would that mean that the rest of the current state would need to become South Colorado? How would the US flag look with 51 stars? Would this give similar ideas to politically restive sections of other states?

It may be too early to ask such questions. The road to forming a new state is a difficult one.

Hahaha. Which parts are left-wing wackos other than Denver?

Update us on the latest lawsuit between the Sheriffs and the Stalinists in Colorado government?

I read that the Sheriffs won't stand for Stalinism in Colorado.

There should be the State of Inner Colorado (a 50-mile circle containing Denver and Boulder) and Outer Colorado consisting of everything else.

And the outer state circle shoudl wiretap, monitor, read emails, violate the inner circle’s consitutional rights- and keep the inner circle on a VERY tight reign so that they can’t exand and do anym ore damage- Let’s see how the left likes havign hteir rights violated for once!

Amen. If Klownie the Kenyan doesn’t adhere to the Constitution, then why should Northern CO residents follow it then? Secede!

The road to forming a new state is a difficult one.

Maybe it would be easier to have Wyoming annex these counties, at least the ones contiguous to it.

Don't matter to me, first chance I get I'm moving there.

There IS precedent for such a split — in Switzerland. Basil city and Basil land split into two cantons circa 1830.

You have a point here that has been on my mind about my birth stare, New York. Some of the finest people in the Union are in NYState, and are quite flattened and made voiceless by the city and suburbs of New York City. Gotham should be separated as a city-state, given 2 extra Senators, and Representatives based on land area, not population. Same for every state with a megatropolis that smothers the clingers in the flyover areas. 2 Senators per unit, Reps based on land area. A possible redistribution of impact

But--this is just an idle thought. The big cities have a throttle grasp on the federal system, and will not give up. IMHO

“Our vision and our morals are no longer represented by the state [Legislature] and the current [governor’s] administration...”

Taxation without representation. That’s what started it in the 1700’s, and that’s what will start it again now. This is only the beginning.

Did you forget about West Virginia? They split from Virginia. The trick is the state legislature has to approve the split and so does the US congress. As the article says it is difficult but not impossible.

That is the reason some CA counties have never split off, to many dems oppose the move. I would love to have a state composed of the Northeastern counties of CA, they are mostly Red. I wouldn't want a straight N/S split because you would have Sacramento and the coastal region included and they are as blue as the sky. Orange county would also be nice to have.

You think it won’t work both ways? Indiana usually reliable Republican but spots of leftist infestation.
I think if it happens we might see a similar movement in every state. Hey California might split 2 lib areas just for the extra 2 senators.
While i think that people should be free to pursue something along these lines it’s best to understand all the consequences and what limits would (sadly) of necessity need be imposed or we might find this nation even more fractured than it is today.

If West Virginia can do it, why can’t North Colorado?

Or West California?
Or East Washington?
Or North New York?
Or Outer Minnesota?

In many cases; kicking the cities ‘to the curb’ would clean up most states.

They made an exception to form WV.
