LOL. Well our extremes haven’t been as bad as yours, but this weather sure beats all. Who is that weather guy Batardi or something like that?

He was on Fox News the other night explaining that the weather pattern is pretty much like what we had in the 1950s, and that we have seen similar stuff before.

Very explainable in just regular weather terms - no need to hype exotic reasons and dragonian laws to address what is after all just mother nature.

My chickens must be slow learners. I had those red nipples int eh bottom of buckets for abut 6 months, but they wouldn't touch them. I'm back to using a standard basin.

You have a nice set-up. I free range my birds over 5 acres. They are great at insect control. The only problem I have is when one suddenly becomes adventurous and heads over to one of the neighboring properties where they have dogs.

BTW - Great photo story!

“If anyone is curious what they have listed for your area, Just let me know.”

Is southeast Texas considered “Central”/Midwest? Or is there something closer? If there is, I’d like the list. Thanks.

“... or preserve one of your homegrown feasts.”

I don’t know how to “preserve” food of any kind in any way and I’m not learning to can with a pressure cooker as those are made for bombs, not canning. I’m not doing glass jars and scalding and cutting and packing jars and blowing them up in a pressure cooker - I am not doing that.

I don’t know how to dehydrate food and don’t know if that will work in southeast Texas where it is 101-107 and humid in the summer. If I could preserve that way, I would.

Texas is Southern Interior or Gulf Coast for the most part.

Are you on the gulf coast?

If you want Houston area specific info on preferred varieties, contact Maas Nursery. All there are very knowledgeable but Jim Maas is the resident expert on local varieties. We bought our vegetable sprouts from there this year thinking we would get better plants than from Lowes or somewhere else.

We are very happy with this years garden, so far. I was attempting to post some pictures today, but Photobucket and I are not getting along very well today. Maybe tomorrow.

On the other hand, a water bath canner will take care of the favorites: Tomatoes, fruits, jams and jellies, pickles. Green Beans can be preserved by hanging and letting them dry.

The used to call them leather britches or some such. In Missouri grains can be dried in the sun. Don’t know about Texas you have more humidity I think. Once dried enough, grains can just be stored in sealed bags with dessicant.

Root veggies can be stored in the ground or in a cool basement corner or maybe a garage.

Would be Southern Interior, not gulf coast. Gulf coast is 100 miles south of me and there is a difference in weather from here to that 100 mile away place. It’s even more humid, considered tropical, on gulf coast.

OK. Southern Interior it is.

I’ll post it later. Right now we have a bunch of lightning and stuff hitting too close. I am going to have to shut down for awhile again.

Catch you later.

Fantastic! Did you think this up all by yourselves? It’s so clever! And no chickens get herded by Corgis.
