He hit at him and kicked a bit to try to get him off, probably not listening and obeying orders. What is the big deal?
The big deal is if anyone deserved a kick it was the lowlifes that were throwing things. The dog was doing what he's supposed to do.
Hopefully the next time that guy needs his dog to protect him the dog will remember and fear being kicked for doing so instead.

The theory in the link at post 136 makes sense to me. In homicide investigations, one of the first questions is "who benefits from the death?".
Mo married Aisha when she was about 9, and died at the age of about 62 when she was about 20. So here was a young woman married to an old man, whose father was Mo's effective second-in-command.
