Notice the name of the town? They had a big court case a few years ago about the cross on city seal which was on the town water tower. Founded by a very religious sect, and I am sure they were aligned with Carrie Nation

Heavy church influence in Zion, IL.
Some of these older utopian-type churches seem rigid and joyless.

Frankly, I don't see much difference between the two.

But! She is exactly correct. Personally, I don’t care if people smoke. I just do not to smell it anymore and I don’t want to pay for their cancer, cardiac, etc healthcare. Once we are okay with the government paying for our healthcare, then we are going to have them telling us how to live.

I lived in Zion, IL the first year I was married. Zion was known as the home of the “blue” laws, as well as the home of a sect called the “Christian Catholic Church” (no relation to the Roman Catholic Church).
Everything commercial was closed on Sundays. No alcohol or tobacco was sold within the city limits. All of the streets had Biblical names. I lived on Ezekial Ave., and the train station was on Bethlehem Road.
It was a pretty little town at the time, however.

Amazing, that people knew in 1911 that cigarettes caused cancer, and that the cigarette companies were able to keep from admitting it until 1998!

This was a dark time in American history. The 16th Amendment wrote a piece of Communism into the Constitution. The 17th Amendment removed the most effective check on federal authority. A few years after the anti-smoking picture above the 18th Amendment was adopted, because a powerful group of elitists didn't believe the average person was worthy of deciding what was good for himself.
One of these disgusting amendments has been repealed. Two more to go.
