Is Ted Cruz a Natural Born Citizen... of Canada?

Posted on 05/21/2013 9:52:10 AM PDT by Ray76

Ted Cruz was born "Rafael Edward Cruz" December 22, 1970 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

His mother is US citizen Eleanor Darragh.

His father is Cuban citizen Rafael B. Cruz. (naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 2005)

Eleanor Darragh and Rafael B. Cruz were residents of Canada for at least four years from 1970, possibly earlier, until 1974. They conducted business there as Rafael B. Cruz and Associates, Ltd.

Where they "permanent residents"?

Is Ted Cruz a "natural born citizen" of Canada?

The laws of Canada are of no concern for determining the citizenship of the United States. Only US laws apply.

Thank you. I get so tired of people claiming that the laws of any another nation decide the citizenship status of an American.

Neither of Marco Rubio’s parents were US citizens at the time of his birth. Did I miss your thread about that? Mrs. Obama was not old enough to transfer her citizenship to her son and the father was a Kenyan. Did I miss your thread about that? John McCain was born in Panama, not the Canal Zone as many think and etc, etc...

Correct. And unless his mother acquired a Consular Report of Birth Abroad at the time of his birth, he is not Natural Born.

Why wouldn’t Canadian law apply to those born on Canadian soil?

Rubio parents were legal residents of the US at the time Rubio was born thus making him a nbC in accordance with Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.

Amen to that. Why waste your time with Canadian law. It is our Constitution that controls and, unfortunately, Mr. Cruz was not naturally born in the U.S.

My point is that it shouldn’t matter any more after a clearly non-NBC was twice elected president, or are there different rules for Republicans and Democrats?

Only US laws apply

Post Obama US laws?

Not saying Obama's not eligible. Just saying nobody knows whether he is or not and the precedence has been set (until HE and not Sheriff Joe releases that info). Of course if Sheriff Joe releases that info and Obama's not eligible and he's removed from office, then and ONLY then can we consider pre-Obama laws to be legit again.

Until then, I'm no longer looking at the eligibility of Conservatives running for President.

I am sure, however, that the democrats will focus on that, John McCain will jump on it and maybe even John Boehner. The US Constitution is not a suicide pack for conservatives. It's either valid all the time or not valid at all.
