Eating more insects could help fight world hunger, according to a new UN report.
The report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization says that eating insects could help boost nutrition and reduce pollution.
It notes than over 2 billion people worldwide already supplement their diet with insects.
However it admits that "consumer disgust" remains a large barrier in many Western countries.
Wasps, beetles and other insects are currently "underutilised" as food for people and livestock, the report says. Insect farming is "one of the many ways to address food and feed security".
"Insects are everywhere and they reproduce quickly, and they have high growth and feed conversion rates and a low environmental footprint," according to the report. Nutritional value
The authors point out that insects are nutritious, with high protein, fat and mineral content.
They are "particularly important as a food supplement for undernourished children".

You first, Boutros !
People too. High in Protein, readily available, tastes like chicken (so I hear) :D
Maggots, it’s what’s for lunch...
Quit kill babies and acting like people are the scourg of the earth, and the insect issue will reslove itself.
Chow down, campers !

A cow is an insect, right?
Correct
Tell ya what...
When all of those UN “diplomat” pukes lead the way and set an example at their posh banquets by chowing down on cricket, cockroach, and palmetto bug souffle, then maybe we will consider it.
Until then, as with everything else UN related...you know the rest, brother...
[[UN urges world to eat more insects (over 2 billion already do)]]
Mmmm yes, 2 billion severely undernourished sickly peopel eat them- gee, could we eat parasite infested insects?
The UN can eat ... never mind.
If I was likely to eat insects, I’d start with the cockroaches who run the UN!!!!!!
I eat and enjoy chicken. Chickens eat a lot of ticks (not insects actually but arachnids), I imagine they’ll happily eat insects too.
Insects as animal feed supplement might be a good use. Eating
them directly; I’d rather go vegan.
I’ll turn bug eater when the U.N. headquarters cafeteria serves up bugs for their delegates, instead of the usual prime rib, shrimp cocktails, and Chilean sea bass. Until then, and as always, FUUN.
The progressives will see this as a great first step, but it’s not far enough until we agree to eat them raw to reduce global warming even further.
OK - lets start by pushing this on our 45 million food stamp recipients here in the US!

Powder, see my post at #10.
Great minds evidently DO think alike....
The alternative plan is to eat UN delegates.
This addresses the problems of
1. world hunger (UN delegates provide 100% of USDA recommended nutritional requirements.)
2. overpopulation (just be sure to eat them as quickly as they are replaced.)
3. global warming/climate change/great big scary thing that will kill us all unless we surrender our liberties to self-serving despots (With the UN gone, the IPCC will soon follow. Or, we could simply add IPCC members to the rolls of those to be eaten.)
4. international tyranny (destruction of godless UN enablers of tyranny would be a devastating blow to the world’s despotic regimes.)
Just an hypotheses - but I think we should run the experiment; at least give it a try.
