The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
I may have to institute a different type of pest control this year.
Double LOL.
Sounds very pretty. Good for the tranquility of the mind I think.
I suggest a Walther pellet handgun without blowback (or get it in rifle form). I got one to take out squirrels and birds if I had to do that to keep my growing food. Unless it a SHTF type of thing, I'll use netting and row cover instead of killing them. But if it is them or me and I need that food, they are going to die.
Or, if you are in the country, use a 22 lr to take out the skunk. I’m in town so got the pellet gun to take out varmits without making much noise.

LOL. I always liked the youngsters with spunk. I used to put them right next to my desk when I was a teacher. They were the only ones quick enough to get my jokes.LOL
At my house it goes like this.
Either there’s peppers in the skillet, or the critter that ATE the peppers in the skillet.
One way or another...
Marcella-if it makes you feel any better-I’ve been gardening for years. Honestly, I still feel like I don’t know what I’m doing. You just keep plugging along. Over the years I’ve come to be grateful if only half the stuff I grow produces something. It’s all good. :)
As long as you could look up and answer the question, it worked out.
Lord help if the question hit during a good part of the book, and you started your answer with "The hyperdrive is collapsing".

This year, I lost my first set of 18 romas because of a bonehead on my part.

Benderville set a record high temp of 73 degrees yesterday but the stunner was the 28% humidity on the shores of Humboldt Bay. Busy doing some cleanup and maintenance plus setting up the timers on the various faucets to start the watering.. Getting the beds ready for the potatoes and corn...
We built and planted a 3' x 18' raised bed using square foot gardening method for vegetables. Also creating an area - for the grand niece and nephew - for pumpkins. Container garden for herbs and going to try to grow small melons in containers using vertical technique - heard pantyhose were great to hold the melons off the ground??? We shall see...
Funny thing last weekend... went to Home Depot to get some bender board and the seed area was swamped with people.... many young families buying seeds. I have never seen this intense interest in gardening. The seed section was at least four times as large as it ever was in the past 20 years I have lived here. People are waking up... these skills are something they need to hone.
There is a lot for me to learn and, as usual, I want to know it all right now.
I see your tag line is a tribute to Margaret Thatcher. I have a picture of me and Thatcher standing next to each other. She was agreeable to the picture since I was in the wax museum in London and there she was - in wax. I didn't care about the kings and queens and so forth in there, but I did care about her. So, there we are, standing next to each other.
I would love to see that pic! She was a great lady-one to be admired and emulated.
LOL. Brings back memories. I spent my entire 3rd grade with a book on my lap trying to pretend I was paying attention to the teacher.
Mom visited one day, and later I heard her tell Dad that she asked the teacher why she didn’t make me put that book up. The teacher said that since I always knew the answers when she asked, she could see no point in it.
You’ve got good weather compared to us. It’s ok though, I get to lazy around instead of doing garden chores. LOL.
