First of all, I want to express my sorrow to the dead and injured from the bombs that went off at the marathon, and those otherwise injured in pursuit of the two chechnyn brothers. I have high praise for the police and medical units who acted and saved lives. As many creative people know, most creativity comes from observing what happens around us. Its; very common for big events in our culture to end up on a screen, be that the television, or in a theatre. Some will first be formed as books, then plays of collected vignettes. There were many filmed portrayals of 9/11, and years later of (what we have been asked to accept as) the night Osama Bin Laden was caught, killed and disposed of, all this done to OBL body with remarkable rapidity, before the next crack of dawn! We just made a big dollar hit movie out of Lincoln.
So who is going to write, produce, star in this film about the Boston Marathon Bombings? There is so much material, it almost demands production. For many citizens of Boston, it will be known as Hell Week. They share the public memory of that first day, the shock of the bombing and it's gruesome destruction, They will recall the days of Boston on Lockdown as slow and eerily quiet, The memories will conclude with the blizzard of gunfire, carjacking, car used as a battering ram, followed by more quiet, ending in a hiding place, the boat that almost became his coffin. The will recall the media guessing games, trying to be first, trying to be 'fair'. If Mel Gibson is momentarily clear of mind and able to work with people, he could do a good portrayal.

Anyway... I like Impy's suggestions... David Krumholtz as the older dead brother and Shia LaBeouf as the younger one they caught are inspired casting choices, I'm sick to death of LaBeouf though. Krumholtz usually has hair long whereas LaBeouf has his short, but if you switched their haircuts like in these photos, it could work:
AuH20Republican's suggestion of Dustin Hoffman (probably can't afford him for a TV though) in Rainman mode as the "estranged Uncle" is great too. His hair is too gray now though, needs to be dyed a shade darker. It would really irk the left if a bunch of Jews were cast as Muslims (though it's been done many times before, like Alfred Molina as Dr. "Moody" Mahmoody in Not Without My Daughter)
One suggestion of my own: Colin Quinn as MSNBC's Chris Matthews (he already played a news anchor during the Weekend Update segments of SNL), following the bombing and warning hysterically that the bombers must be Obama hating right-wing tea party members:

The Rob Lowe movie was so cheesy that I watched it 1.5 times - recommended for a giggle or two!!!
Not to pat myself on the back, but I suggested Dustin Hoffmann in Raymond Babbitt-mode as the uncle.
I laughed uncontrollably when I saw the first promo for the Drew Petersen movie (Scott Peterson promo too but I don’t recall actually seeing that movie) and I wondered what the hell happened to Lowe’s career, he has become Eric Roberts minus the sister.
But I watched the movie and Rob Lowe IS Drew Peterson, he is more Drew Peterson than the real Drew Peterson.
People say it was like he was doing an SNL skit, I think it was so inspired and dead on that it blew everyone’s minds. He BECAME that douchebag, I am certain the real Drew acted exactly like that. Lowe was robbed of an Emmy, wasn’t even nominated. I may be insane but I’m not kidding, I’d give him an Emmy.
I remember that Gary Condit mistresses, Amber Frey, when I first saw her I noticed she looked so much like Lowe’s “The Left Wing” co-star, Janel Moloney, that I said if they ever made a movie about it that Janel would get the role. And sure enough, she did.
Which brings me to the Uncle Ruslan role, Jurgen Prochnow IS Uncle Ruslan. He’s German but could nail it. He played the former Soviet General turned Kazakhstan dictator in “Air Force One”. Speaking of Eric Roberts he’d be another another great choice if he could handle the accent.
Quinn as Chrissie Matthews, inspired. But you know who actually played Matthews on SNL and was dead on? Darrell Hammond. I think Quinn could make a great Bill O’Reilly.
This is fun despite or perhaps because it’s in bad taste, how else to cope with this crap but with fun/humor? Otherwise our heads would explode.
Being a casting director for a major (or any) movie must be awesome. Especially with the desperate young actresses. ;p

Rob Lowe is one of the few “himbo” actors that I think has gotten better with age. Liked his role in “Thank You For Smoking”. And you’re right Impy, he was more Drew Peterson than the real Drew Peterson.
I still stand by my choice as a semi-retarded Hoffmann as the uncle. The sheer humor of having Raymond Babbitt reciting the allegedly “outraged” uncle’s rantings would be rib-breakingly funny. And end the rant with “Wapner at 4, Wapner at 4.” I’d pay real dollars to see that.

I don't know how I've been watching "The Following" for the past few months and am just now making the connection with Islam. It's dead on, except the serial killer cult leader on the show is much more witty and urbane than I imagine Mohammed was.

Wow, creepy, just like it's creepy that mere days before the attack I was thinking we were overdue (I was afraid we'd have one in Chicago) and in an unrelated matter was looking up the Northern Caucuses region of Russia (I'm very interested in political geography so I'm always doing stuff like that).

Very good cast list there. Michael Peña as Saudi person of interest and Kate Upton as Blond girlfriend in crowd are cool ideas, although I would cast BillyBoy as Man making out with Blond girlfriend ;-)
The only one I'd object to is Jennifer Connolly as Zubeidat Tsarnaeva. I googled the real Zubeidat Tsarnaeva and Jennifer Connolly is way too hot to the play the terrorist's mama. I've had a crush on her since Labyrinth. (Since it's a TV movie, they'd probably do it anyway, all the Amy Fisher's in the three movie versions were 10X hotter than the real Amy Fisher) But I say if you're going to cast mom & dad, try these:
Kevin Spacey as Anzor Tsarnaev 
Barbara Streisand (with dark hair dye job, black eyebrows, and brown contacts) as Zubeidat Tsarnaeva. The ideal choice for the role would have been the late Margaret Hamilton, best known as the Wicked Witch of the West in 1939's the Wizard of the Oz.
Bonus points for Streisand though: another Jew would be playing a Muslim terrorist, and Streisand would jump at the role and wouldn't have to act much if all her lines involved screeching about how evil George W. Bush and the USA are: 
The casting sessions would be awesome... "Shia, could you read the line 'I hate this imperialist country. Thank Allah for weed' again? And use a stronger Russian accent this time"

And she’s only 9 years older than Alona but how about Chloe Sevigny as her mom? I don’t know if Mrs. Terrorist even has a mom but Chloe Sevigny is always a good addition for some gratuitous sex. Chloe is an odd one, I mean you’d hardly call her “pretty” would you? But damn, Irma time!! All the time. I would watch her read the Koran from cover to cover as long as she did it nude.
Of course, if she's, um, unavailable, maybe Nadine Ascencao might deserve an audition.
