A Tax on the “privilege” of selling soda in California—Creates NEW Category of PERJURY...

Democrats believe that the selling of a Coke or Pepsi is a privilege granted by government. Only government can determine what is allowed to be sold. Worse, they consider the use of soda a problem of “Behavioral Health”—surely a government determination. And they want to make violation of this new law a CRIMINAL act.

“This bill would, on and after July 1, 2013, impose a tax on every distributor, as defined, for the privilege of distributing in this state bottled sweetened beverages, at a rate of $0.01 per fluid ounce and for the privilege of distributing concentrate in this state, either as concentrate or as sweetened beverages derived from that concentrate, at the rate of $0.01 per fluid ounce of sweetened beverage to be produced from concentrate. The tax would be administered by the State Board of Equalization and would be collected pursuant to the procedures set forth in the Fee Collection Procedures Law.”

I tried reading the language of the bill and still have no idea what the “perjury provision” refers to (heck neither does the author of the bill most likely).

Absolute insanity. What can one say except “Get out of California” if you have a business.

But "behavioral health" problems like AIDS caused by homosexual behavior are just fine and dandy with government? Stupidity reigns!

I guess the only important thing is that throwing in a few words to make it a criminal offense to sell soda unlawfully will bring in more money to the State.

If that’s the case then they should make the insurance companies pay for it. If they can make them pay for the fact that gays can’t procreate, why not?

If the syrup were produced w/o sugar or corn syrup and that sweetener were added as a separate, discrete third step, I believe, as worded, that might be a product exempt from the tax on the manufacturers level.

If this law goes through it will give the definition of ‘coke dealer’ a whole new meaning.

And a higher crime, just like smoking MJ is more acceptable than tobacco.

Can a drunkard who is in love with alcohol get married to the bottle and avoid the crushing “sin taxes” on his chosen lifestyle?

While are rump pumpers above the rest of the world’s sinners?

How is it they avoided the “sin taxes” that gamblers, t!tty bar fans, and drinkers must pony up?

Closeted homosexuals in the courts and legislature and academia and the medical profession sought to "normalize" perversity.

Someone has enthusiasm for this law, obviously, but what kind of person wants to live in an police state?

gov’t employees get more jobs the more regs they have to enforce, and their unions own the politicians.

We’re getting postings on Kalifornica for goofy legislation with no bill numbers or the names of sponsor and co-sponsors let alone their districts being reported.

Wow. Ayn Rand was brilliant but I didn't think they'd go so far as to actually use her words.
