Posted on 04/05/2013 7:20:30 PM PDT by MNDude

There are a lot of lousy musicians that are a lot more popular than they deserve, but in you opinion, who are the three most over rated musicians (or groups) of all time?

That is because calling Yoko Ono an overrated musician is a grievous insult to overrated musicians everywhere.

I’d call Yoko Ono music like “the sound a cat makes when getting hit by a beer truck”... but I do not want to besmirch cats or beer trucks... or the impact of the two

Catchy; good g solo, drums, and bass line.

I just don't have an ear for the guy's raspy voice. Give me Jim Morrison pumped full of whiskey and quaaludes and even on a bad day he's Pavarotti compared to Seger.

Those ribbons are given Kennedy Center Honorees at their White House Reception.

“99.8% of all Rap/HipHop.”

Okay, name some of the 0.2% of rap and hip-hop that isn’t overrated.

I have to admit Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” is fun in a cheesy sort of way...

The real tragedy of John Lennon’s death is that Mark David Chapman emptied his weapon and didn’t even graze Yoko.

I found this:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bob%20Seger%20Island

Bob Seger Island

(n) Theoretical island where all crappy musicians and all traces of their music go to never be heard from again. Because of the craptastic nature of the music, it is never missed.

example: Bryan Adams sucks. He belongs on Bob Seger Island.

Oasis. Mediocre whining pop music and they beat the Beatles and Stones for popularity in England.

Bruce gets my vote. Can’t sing. Can’t play guitar. And can’t write songs.

Back in the day I wasn't really a Seger fan but lately, I've been taking another look. Particularly, ‘Main Street’ changed my mind. It could be the craptastic stuff that passes for music has elevated what used to be considered average.

OK - just to make it fair - a few women too:

1. Barbara Streisand - can sing some songs well, but is not even half as great as she is rated to be.

2. Judy Garland - sang a bit shrilly when she gets wound up and her voice begins to waver.

True, his songs were not usually “deep”, but at the same time, they set the standard for rock n roll songwriting that many followed.

Though, if you dig into his catalogue, he wrote some songs that weren’t just superficial stuff for teenie boppers. Those just didn’t sell, so who could blame him for sticking with the fluff, eh?

Ha, those aren’t so bad. I secretly like “Word Up” too, even if the video makes me roll of the floor laughing at the red codpiece!

Culture Club/boy George. I heard a piece of theirs on an 80’s channel a few weeks ago (hadn’t heard them in years) and was shocked at how bad they were.

"Do you really want to hurt me...."

"Yes we do!"
