SHTF doesn’t generally drop by at the best of times. In fact, SHTF thrives and grows exponentially under more adverse circumstances.
So, suck it up, put on your boots, and power through it – SHTF doesn’t care and neither can you!
1.SHTF doesn’t care about inclement weather – snow, hail, tornadoes and hurricanes all just add to the party atmosphere for SHTF.
2.SHTF doesn’t care that you sprained your ankle, broke your leg or are otherwise less than ambulatory. If you have to bug out without a vehicle, you have to bug out, regardless of your injury status. 3.SHTF doesn’t care that you decided to start prepping after the trip to Disneyworld (because that trip is expensive!!!!)
4.SHTF doesn’t care that you are on a boat in the middle of the ocean, regardless of what you paid for the luxury cruise. (Check out recent ill-fated Carnival Cruise of the Triumph if you don’t believe me!)

I am sometimes on the road and start thinking how I would get home if things go wrong. Wouldn’t be pretty sometimes!

Just like Honey Badger, SHTF don’t care.
I would add a few helpful, if uncomfortable suggestions.
1) Circumstances do not care one whit about your timetable, habits, patterns, routines and plans. Nothing will happen as slow or as fast as you want. Or likely in the way you want. Nobody will offer you help in the way you want and need.
2) You can totally waste your energy, strength, and will indulging in petty annoyances like sunburn, crotch rot, blisters, cuts & scrapes & rashes & insect bites, an irritated runny nose or sore throat, diarrhea, missing a few meals, etc. You need that energy, strength and will to survive, so put the petty stuff in perspective.
3) Everybody else are probably having their own issues and stress, so don’t assume it’s just you. They also might have unusual assets worth a lot to all of you, but you won’t know unless you ask them.
My luck, I will be on the “throne” when shtf or earthquake or janet gestapilano comes to vist.
And remember, “Murphy was an optimist.”
Just remember,, it always gets darkest just before the lights go totally out.
SHTF is not a reality show, it will be reality!
Timely post. Since I have changed jobs, my husband and I have not discussed plans for “what if TSHTF when we are at work”. In my old job, I knew our meeting place, the route I’d take and the time it would take, alternate plans etc.
My new job is 6 miles further in a different direction. I was just today thinking what if the SHTF right now? Would my husband know the direction I would take, who I would trust, points of meeting up?
I’ll discuss this with him tomorrow.
I think of getting my grandchildren who live in a large city. I know their other grandmother is a prepper and lives in small town about an hour away and I have told them if something happens to get there.
When I lived in New York (20 miles outside the city) during the Cuban missile crisis, my SHTF pland was to bend over and kiss my butt goodbye.

Ever been to Sam’s Club? I have - pretty well stocked, can’t see why there would be shortages for a long, long, time in a SHTF scenario.
...of course there are 600 of those stores serving, maybe 200,000,000 Americans. So figure 300,000 people per store. Of course there are other stores...so maybe only 10% of that number actually hit Sam’s. So each Sam’s would carry supplies for 30,000 people (their portion).
So now, given a shutdown of their supply line, how many rolls of paper towels can each person (of those 30,000) buy before they run out? I’ll give a hint - about 4 paper towels, not 4 rolls of paper towels, not 4 cases of paper towels, about 4 paper towels...THAT’S IT.
Needless to say, Sam’s will not ration that way - more likely they’ll sell it by the usual case and limit to one each - of which they may have 500 available (at most). So get there REALLY FAST, or you’ll be left like the other 29,500 people, who will see empty floor space where the paper towels once were. The run out of paper towels will be completed about 3 hours after people realize that the supply lines are cut.
Of course there is a second option - buy them BEFORE they run out. We keep at least 4 years worth of them in our house (we’re just getting to the 2009 supply, we keep them dated, of course)...along with 4 years plus of every other non-perishable item I could think of. Most items don’t take much room - with paper towels being the worst, followed by toilet paper - but most other stuff is very compact. Food is tough, simply because of the sheer quantity required and the sometimes difficult storage requirements.
