It had been nearly two decades since I owned a cell phone when I decided recently to purchase an ATT cell phone, using their GoPhone program. The idea was/is to have a device to reach others via speech from a semi-remote location in case of emergency, and do so with minimum hassle or expense. I'm sure there are millions who seek the same. Now that I have the phone and have successfully disabled any texting and web applications (not without first being dinged for any and all fumbling with the buttons), I receive bogus phone calls from god-knows-who spammeisters, with each disconnected call costing $0.10. My cell number has not been published to anyone other than my wife, and she probably forgot the number anyway.
This leads me to wonder whether it would not be in the interest of a company like ATT to employ folks to make these bogus calls. Im on the hook for this dough, and no one else. Sure, I can call ATT, bitch about it and let them make an adjustment to my account, which Im sure they will gladly do. But how many other people just let this stuff go at $0.10 a pop? Why should I go through this hassle to keep my dimes?
There was a school district from a neighboring state (OH) whose text notification system is on steroids. It was like getting a phone call for every snowflake that threatened to hit the ground (Okay, I hyperbolize) until I emailed their IT guy and those calls stopped pretty much the same day, but why should I have to go through that just to own a phone?
As of now, I am of a mind to toss the whole notion once the 3-month bath of minutes expires, but if someone out there has better experiences for pure and simple mobile voice without all this bogus BS, Id like to hear about it. It is my firm opinion that, by law, cell phone billing for voice calls ought only be attached to the outbound party.
Just get an obozophone — they are free and all those problems belong to the DNC!
But aren’t you stuck with receiving all those lame Tweats from MooseChelle?
Must the replies contain both reason & rhyme?
Not sure I can supply both at the same time...
:)
You should be able to call Customer service and get the cell # changed due to the harassing calls. this should be a free service. it cant hurt to call.
Buy a Tracfone from Walmart. I’ve used one for years and have had little trouble from unwanted calls. No contract required and you can buy as many minutes as you think you will need. Serves my minimal communication needs just fine.
Telemarketers have gone crazy calling all of our cell phones. It appears they randomly call numbers via dialer software. The only thing you can really do is to block each number as you determine it is a telemarketer/scammer.
That might work
If I’m not too much the jerk.
I suspect, however, clever
Trolls are ready
Worse than Billy and Freddie.
I’ve had AAT for years and been quite satisfied with them. However, reading their literature fees and service requirements is a must as is a willingness to call and politely but firmly complain. Their overseas packages are quite good if you just remember to turn off all the smart stuff on your phone - I know people who got hammered with two or three thousand dollar charges because daughter liked YouTube.
Moochelle Tweats
Beet Moochelle teats.
I am on an AT&T Go Phone service with a pre-SmartPhone Motorola RAZR. I switched to the $2.00/day plan which comes with a catch - it is $2.00 per day but only on the days you actually place or receive a call. Once you do make/receive a call, all the rest of the calls that day are free. For recluses, that’s a nice deal.
Since it has a caller ID, ignore any calls you don’t recognize. If they go to voice mail, choose to play them back on a day you were planning to use the phone anyway.
In my case, the $25 refill lasts me approx. one month which is considerably less than most calling plans. I stay away from texting and web access unless I absolutely need to.
I use Tracfone pre-paid and seldom have spam calls. I do occasionally get them, however.
I also signed my number up on the FED and state DO NOT CALL lists.
Took only moments enduring this stint
To discover it’s covered
In all the fine print.
I’ve got Cricket ... and it’s my only phone. It works great and it’s flat rate with unlimited everything. I don’t care who calls and who texts, as it doesn’t matter. But, the fact of the matter is that no one calls that I don’t know and no one texts that I don’t know. So, it really doesn’t make any difference. And this is after having it for a long time (over a year, anyway, on one number).
AND ... if someone has the “Life Line” program (if you have even $1 of Food Stamps, you qualify) - you can get $35 credit back on the Cricket account. That should wipe out any payment every month.
I’ve heard good things about the TracFone;
How minutes and musings are cut to the bone.
May give it a try before I cry.
wut?
Now you're talkin! errr . . .
“In all the fine print”
LOL and very true.
They should encounter liability. Not me. Not you. Nosiree.

You can list up to 3 phones. And it works but not forever like they claim. I need to re-list about every 90 days.
