SPRINGFIELD, Ill.,- An Illinois lawmaker is trying to ban the sale of lion meat in his state, which he says is sold in at least two places statewide.
Rep. Luis Arroyo, D-Chicago, has proposed legislation to ban the sale and slaughter of lion meat in the state of Illinois, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
"There are people that have them and raise them, but you're going to raise them and eat them?" Arroyo said, "It's just inhumane. Those are zoo animals. Then you talk about eating elephants, eating all kinds of zoo animals. There's other meats we can eat besides the lions."
Arroyo said he knew of at least two places in the state that lion meat was available for purchase.
Under his legislation, anyone caught selling lion meat for human consumption could be sentenced to up to one year or fined up to $25,000.

Whew, lion is worth about 200 a pound on the hoof. Dressed it runs about 500 a pound, oviously a major problem in his district.

I spent a lot of time in Africa back in the 80s and of all the restaurants I’d eaten or dinners in my colleagues’ houses, I never once saw it on any menu or had it offered to me. I would imagine the males would be better eating, since the females work their butts off catching chow for The King of Beasts.
Didn’t say I wouldn’t eat it....but I’ve never had top of the food chain mammal meat.
Dog meat back in the 1770’s might have been good in comparison to what was available then.

Lion? Dog? ...not so sure.
All I can say is it’s nice to be on top of the food chain.

One of these I count as my friend and a Godly man. He has already served prison time for selling “lion” meat that turned out to be tiger (lapse in due diligence on his part).
It won’t put him out of business but Arroyo is doing this for the “circus” atmisphere that brings the camera to him. He’s a “brown” Je$$e Jack$on.
I thought all politicians ate lying meat so they would never have to speak the truth.

Watch for the scene of the starving POWs as they start to eat a dog stew. A small taste first, then a bigger and bigger and BIGGER BITES!
Oh, let the lions alone, dummy. Instead, how about feeding Rep. Luis Arroyo (D-Chicago) to the lions? The kitty cats need more fat heads in their diet.
I ate lion meat in Milwaukee MANY years ago....Frenchy’s restaurant....various exotic animal meats available....our group ordered many different species and all shared a little of each. Very interesting and somewhat unimpressive!!!! and very expensive!!
Not African lion, but I have had mountain lion a couple of times. Surprisingly, it was a rather mild white meat, similar to pork chops or loin.
A local church has an annual wild game feed. (had to miss it this year) The meats mainly supplied by a state game warden, and a state depredation trapper, who are friends of the associate pastor.
Also included are fish & fowl. There is also a lecture & Q&A afterward on game management & hunting/trapping.
Elk, venison, bison, antelope, rabbit, raccoon, duck, grouse, mountain lion, rattlesnake, wild turkey, and pheasant are always on the menu. So are trout, bass, various sunfish, catfish, paddlefish, and snapping turtle. Sometimes, out of state stuff is included, as available, such as alligator.
Generally speaking, carnivore meat is not as good tasting as herbivore meat.
Same with fish...the higher on the food chain they are the stronger that it tastes.
I had quite a bit of cougar during my younger days.
