I had a popup blocked on FR yesterday. i ignored it and moved on, but then thought, WTH? I should have checked to see who it was.
Nothing here alerted..but I don’t get pinged to the same posts perhaps..Just don’t click on the link so designated.
Yes, I am logged in. That is how I could post this thread. I am afraid to read replies to my post because my Google chrome is detecting the malware presence when I click on “New posts to you” message on FR.
Run a scan using MalwareBytes.com (free) software and also make sure your anti-virus is up to date and run a full scan with that- do it before you go to bed and let it run all night if it has to
I use www.avast.com and have NEVER had a problem - it is my favorite (and the home version is also free)
:: message about malware ahead! ::
Uhhhh....
don’t
click
on
it
?
Thanks a bunch. Guess what? I did not get that message this time!
Try checking your browser options. You may need to disable some add-ons. I had a similar thing happen, did that and now it’s OK.
It’s a guilty by association warning that browsers and virus shields have been doing lately.
Someone posts a picture or a link from another site. The picture or link itself doesn’t have malware on it, but the parent site somewhere does. Their malware is probably embedded in an advertisement script or possibly a file download, neither of which you’ll actually get on Free Republic through the link. Parent site gets a flag and then Free Republic gets a flag in the message that the picture or link was used in.
Nothing really to be alarmed about.
There were two comments with hotlinks to lolpresident.com, one from Monday, one from 2009. Both have been removed.
I did NOT click on it...duh....I am crazy but not stupid haha!
Looks like FR mods must have fixed the problem since I am no longer getting the malware ahead warning.
Thank you mods!!!! Problem has disappeared!
Run some of the malware checker programs.
Then, reboot.
Sometimes, errant material from web pages get lock into the cache. Rebooting should clear that out.
Thanks for raising the issue - going forward, also please either mash abuse or send a freepmail to Admin Moderator. Mashing abuse will get the quickest response.
I don't know how it got installed but I suspect it was either bundled in with a freeware program I downloaded and subsequently deleted OR it came with my latest version of Avast that was updated recently....
My thinking was it was NOT generated by FR-links.
My guess is that the Mods did...nada.

Do you have any idea how old and tiresome that ‘joke’ is?
Yes. But a thread like this couldn’t survive without it.
Meh, it’s an FR classic....an oldie but a goodie!
