My wife and I were at my parents for Thanksgiving, along with my sister.
During dinner conversation, we discovered my sister was an enthusiastic Obama supporter. Unfortunately, the conversation ended up in a long political argument. My parents refused to say how they voted, but it was pretty obvious they're drinking the Koolaide too, along with my brother, who wasn't there.
As you can imagine, I've been thinking a lot about this since. There's more than a little bit of regret I have from the conversation, but beyond that, I think it was the first time I've actually come face to face with the mindset of the other side.
Most of you have probably been there and seen the unbelievable lack of information, complete ignorance of history, acceptance of propaganda as fact, and just the stupidity and immorality that otherwise good people can accept.
I'm saddened by the whole episode, but more than that, I'm more than a little afraid. I can't help but think about the history of Nazi and pre-Nazi Germany, of the Russian and Chinese "revolutions", and the other repeated examples of the horrors of socialism and the relative ease with which their countries' populations accepted them, even with enthusiasm.
Again, this is probably old hat to a lot of us here.
But, as I was out in the garage, patching up one of our old cars for the 3rd or 4th time, trying to keep it driveable so we don't have to spend money on a new one (even though we must be "the rich", since our taxes are going to go up even more), I had a lot of time to think, and I'm faced with the reality that, someday in the future, I am likely to be an enemy of the state.
I know I'm not going to be a member of the ruling elite in the coming new order. Nor will I be one of their supporters. That means I'll either be a member of the vocal dissent that gets killed off early on, the resistance that gets hunted down later (I suspect this is where I'll end up), or I can chose to be a slave to the state - and I refuse to be the latter.
It's a sobering thought. I love my country. I never thought I would ever take action against her. But I can't help feeling that, at some point, if I value freedom and my rights as an individual, then I will end up her enemy.
Anyone thought along similar lines? If so, how do you deal with it, 'cause I'm pretty darned depressed about the idea.
Your right Johnny
Logistics is always the key
I could say more but——
No man can honestly answer that question until he's faced with that decision. I can only say that my wife and kids are more dear to me than anyone else. ANYone else.

They are idiots.
Don’t feel bad about going against the country. Remember, you’re actually trying to protect the nation that was founded on the guiding principles of the constitution. The Polish resistance to communist rule felt similar things, but they were brave patriots protecting their country against an ideology of evil that had enslaved their brothers and sisters. If we must fight for our future, let it be so. If conservatives are to become enemies of the state, let it be so. I would sooner stand as an enemy of the state than as a slave to empty promises void of facts, class hatred, and unaccountability for a totalitarian gang of socialist thugs propped up by the yellow press and economic terrorists like George Soros.
I would fight anywhere against that.
More power to us my brother.
My 60-something boomer parents, "supposedly" lifelong so-con Republicans also drank the Obama kool-aide. With mounting medical bills, they were convinced that Romney and the Republicans were going to take away their "free" medical care.
In the end, they voted with their wallet. Reason number 837 why Romney lost.
Fortunately, I have no worries about “becoming” an enemy of the state. LOL
Christmas we're taking a cruise.
I want NOTHING to do with those in my family who voted for this POC Obama. And I mean NOTHING. I've disowned 'em completely.
Fantasies of armed struggle revolution, Wacos every day (and night too!) while Obamanoids are transforming our country and its Constitution right before our eyes, as they promised to do. It turns out, as John Roberts capriciously decides one way then the other, that the Constitutional Order of the United States has been a house of cards and smart revolutionaries like Bill Ayers had figured it out and learned how to undermine it, while families such as ours sit around a turkey and argue trivial minutiae of Obama’s policies. It’s the Democrats who are for the good things against the Republicans, who, obviously, are against the good things!
Have you told your relatives that Obama is a 3rd generation Communist and has admitted it in his books that your relatives admire and maybe even own but never read? Have you told them that he wrote his mother twice when he for a short time had a private sector job that he worked for the “enemy”? Have you told them that he considers the U.S. Constitution flawed because of what he and his marxist academic sponsors call “negative liberties”, such freedom FROM government’s interference into the citizens’ lives (generally speaking)? Have you told them about the Mussolini pose pictures, the bowing to foreign dictators?
Do they, your relatives, like paying $4+ for a gallon of gasoline. Is that the price of their racial guilt? Facts, ma’am, just the facts!
Amen. Let us also remember that, in truth, we've had the real power all along.
Don’t give up.
1) Get ready for the storm
2) stay away from Obama voters
Obama “won” by 3 million votes.
Half of the country feels the same way you do.
I’ve heard too many on FR say “the Clinton years seem like a happy memory”. Do people not realize that the Clintons with their Arkansas mafia paved the way for Obama and his Chicago thugocracy? Set aside the dishonorable way in which Clinton conducted himself; endangering all of us with his behavior that invited foreign blackmail (and do we know that he wasn’t blackmailed?) - Hillary is hand in glove with Obama; a little Alinsky disciple from way back, in hiding ever since Benghazi until the fickle American public “forgets” - as it did in Clinton scandal after Clinton scandal. The Clintons tried “Hillarycare” during his tenure; but she got too highhanded and it failed. Now, it’s right on track for Hillary to take the reins. Surely you don’t think Obama got all that Bill “magic” for nothing, do you? Of course, Obama lies; but it takes one to know one, and you can be sure any promise Obama might have made to Clinton is heavily “insured”.
“Whos next in the Democrat party?”
To go to jail? Ah, if only it would be Her Horribleness, HILLARY. Certainly no one would be more deserving, excluding Hussein, of course, of being imprisoned.
We know how this eventually ends. We just got to make sure we’re on the right side.
Yes, that's exactly why it works. Once they see you're very different from the stereotypical villain of liberal propaganda, they're surprised enough to think a little.
Also: if they're really afraid of you, if they genuinely believe you can do them a lot of damage, being polite and respectful disarms them. The relief reflex works to your advantage.
The only downside to this approach is that you need a thick skin. For every one you open the mind of, there'll be at least one who'll rant at you and/or try to humiliate you. For that type, the best you can hope for is for they to feel guilt over their one-sided rudeness. Many won't.
“That is why he is quietly building an air force of drone aircraft. It is just a step away from arming them.”
History shows us examples of what happens. Asymetric warfare begins. A hellfire blows up some opponents of a totalitarian regime. Little can be done about that.
A sultry woman in a Las Vegas bar is cuddled up wih an Airman from Nellis. After several drinks, he brags about his job as a drone operator. He is pointing out that he was fully trained as a regular pilot.
Two days later, on his way home, he is pumping gas into his car. He is shot dead in what appears to be a carjacking. Nobody knows he was drinking with that woman a few days ago. Nobody knows that she lost her politically active father in an ATF drone attack, and so with her brother, she hatched a revenge plot. They are part of no organization or movement. They never talk about it to anyone. Their arsenal is a Glock 19, two boxes of hollowpoints, -and- her smoking hot 22 year body, the kind men can’t resist.
The owner of a drone manufacturing concern gets an envelope delivered. It has photos of his daughter walking into a school. Crosshairs are drawn over the photo. He demands and gets labor intensive protection that the government cannot really provide in the strained environment. His office window is 25 feet from a major public street, he see’s cars drive by all day. Anyone could be a bomb. When they founded the business, the wars were over in central Asia and they were just an aviation supplier.
The air base commander looks at his wife. He met her years ago while training in Texas. She just told him they should go visit her parents at Christmas this year. He remembers that house of theirs, out on that small remote 400 acre patch they have. He goes to the ranch. He is never seen again. The wife stays with her parents, and files a police report that he is “missing”. Nobody ever knows that just before the trip, she was sickened by seeing Americans killing Americans. She knows the base is heavily into drone work. And she just found out her Officer husband was pulling a “Petraeus”.
Think this is farfetched? I direct you to every insurgency on earth. I direct you to Mexico, today, this saturday evening.
Yes
And what hurt is that this happened on OUR watch. We are the one’s who sat by and let this go on for years.
We should be the one’s to clean it up. For or kids and grandkids.
When I was a little kid and I first learned of Christians being fed to the lions, I can remember my shock.
I have accepted that shock again with the knowledge that it could happen to me and mine now.
