For many years, I thought you were a bit of a nut. A very INTELLIGENT nut, but a nut nonetheless. Your constant harping about Gramscian politics was, to my mind, weird a little paranoid.
It turns out you were one hundred percent right. The move to destroy America has been very below-the-surface, highly organized, and extremely effective ... and the model has been, indeed, Antonio Gramsci's.
From the work Notes on Saul Alinsky and Neo-Marxism:
Remember that the primary influence for Obama's strategy comes from Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals." With that in mind..."Alinsky's tactics were based, not on Stalin's revolutionary violence, but on the Neo-Marxist strategies of Antonio Gramsci, an Italian Communist. Relying on gradualism, infiltration and the dialectic process rather than a bloody revolution, Gramsci's transformational Marxism was so subtle that few even noticed the deliberate changes.
Like Alinsky, Mikhail Gorbachev followed Gramsci, not Lenin. In fact, Gramsci aroused Stalins's wrath by suggesting that Lenin's revolutionary plan wouldn't work in the West. Instead the primary assault would be on Biblical absolutes and Christian values, which must be crushed as a social force before the new face of Communism could rise and flourish. Malachi Martin gave us a progress report:
"By 1985, the influence of traditional Christian philosophy in the West was weak and negligible.... Gramsci's master strategy was now feasible. Humanly speaking, it was no longer too tall an order to strip large majorities of men and women in the West of those last vestiges that remained to them of Christianity's transcendent God."
This excerpt is the bread-and-meat section that tells me that you were prescient and well-versed in the tactics of our enemy. If there is any excuse on my part, I have only one: That which Matt Bracken refers to as the 'normality bias'. I am biased, as are most, to believe things will 'stay normal' and to discount sweeping conspiracies.
But I have awoken. Is it too late, I do not know. Can one man make a difference, I am unsure. Will it get much worse in America, absolutely.
So, this is an open letter to you to acknowledge my being incorrect, you being correct, and to ask you what a nation does to unwind this horrifying and seemingly inexorable push to Marxist/Fascist control.

Anyway, more respectable outfits that come to mind are Federalist Society and CATO. There are some on the spiritual front as well, even if the University of Notre Dame and the vast majority of Protestant churches are losing their way.
Good post. The battle is more one-on-one than most people realize. Get your kids thinking straight. Don't waste your time on true friendships with liberals.

Mixed feelings. There's a certain level of amusement people get from that. I do like to stay funny too; I feel in the darker times, morale is important. I've always considered myself a bit of FR's Class Clown... so... I dunno....
.... and on the other side, I do recognize that even humor about this is, to some degree, nonspiritual. Certain FR ladies who have met me lately have been shocked (and gratified, I bet) that the "I'd Hit It" dude is all an act. So, the actual behavior has greatly improved.

That is one of the key reasons we are in this mess today. ADD (attention deficit disorder). Many folks don't want to take the time to adequately learn the ins and outs of what's going on. We've gotten intellectually lazy. As for presentation, I don't know about you, but I'll take substance over style any day.

The solution to this is sooooo damn clear, that it cannot be seen, as it is clear enough to be transparent...
The answer is strict constitutionalism..
Now, we will have libs shouting from the rooftops that they are for this...
We will also have conservatives shouting the same thing from a different rooftop..
Now, here is the dirty little secret.. the constitution, as written, is not a liberal document. It is not a conservative document either..
The constitution, applied as written, would piss off just as many conservatives as it would liberals..
To prove this point, have a conservative take their favorite issues, and find where in the constitution this issue is a power granted to the federal government..
Vast majority of these issues cannot be found in the constitution, yet you hear the chime for more laws, more restrictions on our god given rights, and more infringement on our liberties. This comes from both sides of the political spectrum.
People just need to shut off their own pre-conceived notions of what is right and what is wrong, and think for themselves, always using the constitution as your political guide.
But, the limbaugh, hannity, levin wing will continue to allow others to do their thinking for them.
And herein lies the problem we face as a group. Critical thinking skills are all but gone. As a race ( and yes, american is a race ) we have gotten just plain lazy.
Groupthink is so much easier than doing it ourselves.
The fear of being labeled an “outcast” or a “non-conformer” is so prevalent that is has rendered even the most highly motivated person silent.
The way to restore your own critical thinking is to first shut off the AM radio.
Instead of arguing with and slandering the people that buy into the constitution as written, just listen to them and apply the constitution test to what they are saying.
You will begin to be surprised at what you learn.
Accept nothing from anyone at face value. Figure it out on your own. It is quite a refreshing feeling.
The way out is right in front of our eyes, always has been and always will be.
People just have to wake up.

Great post, Laz. It takes a big person to admit they've been wrong. I can't speak for Askel, but the one thing all of us can do is PRAY.
I believe God blessed our nation once. He is waiting for us to come back to Him. Prayer will help do that. "Ask and you shall receive."

Here's my perspective on the Gramscian meme and methodology: neither Gramsci nor any of his acolytes, adherents and fellow travelers - Marcuse, Lerner, Alinsky, the Cloward-Piven duo, et al - truly understood just how successfully how their ideas have been co-opted, compromised and hijacked by the will to power driven monsters who now are within months of achieving total control of the apparatus of the American state.
These are the eliminationists, the killers without conscience about which I have written. We can scarcely comprehend their desire and yes, their need to revel in mass murder, slaughter and atrocity for its own sake. Those who who think that way are the product of a toxic convergence of two vast cultural currents - one with its roots in Bronze Age antiquity: Quigley's Pakistani-Peruvian Axis. The other, what I believe to be a product of the fall of the Roman Empire and its subsequent failure to rebuild itself: the Scandinavian-Slavonic axis.
It's a civilization-destroying, freedom crushing combination of the psycopathy and cruelty of the former and the nihilism and hatred of this world of the latter. I was writing on Facebook with a friend who actually sparked this thread. In one response, I wrote:

I agree with you about the [the need of the GOP to embrace God and Christianity more]. However, here's the current lay of the land: We who embrace God are now the minority and those who embrace pleasure and wanton sex and self-seeking and glorification of the self, are the majority.
So, should Republicans embrace a Godly message, they'd be 'laughed out of church'. This cannot be a top down effort. This has to be bottom-up.
That means ALL the responsibility is OURS. For example, today you made a large difference in my life. You enrolled me to your cause. Keep speaking the truth, and you will gain more warriors. I will do the same. IT IS UP TO US.
