Tuning In
September 6, 2012
I dont know if this is true in every marriage, but for some reason I have a tendency to tune out everything around me and concentrate on my own thoughts. This is especially frustrating to my wife, Martie, when she is talking to me about something important. When she notices the distant look in my eyes, she often says, Have you heard anything Ive said?
Listening is an important part of any relationship, especially in our relationship with Christ. If we belong to Him, we have the privilege of communing with Him through His Word and the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. We know we are paying attention to the true Shepherd when His voice leads us to righteousness, love, grace, and all that is consistent with His character and will. As Jesus made clear when He identified Himself as the good Shepherd in John 10, those who diligently listen to Him become devoted followers of Him (v.4) who are becoming transformed into His likeness.
Just as listening attentively to your spouse or a friend communicates value and worth, paying close attention to the voice of Jesus is one way to affirm His importance in your life. So, lets cast aside the distractions of life, tune in to His voice, and pray for the grace to do what He says.
I would be prayerful through each busy moment;
I would be constantly in touch with God;
I would be tuned to hear His slightest whisper;
I would have faith to keep the path Christ trod. Walter
Listening to Jesus is the first step to following Him.

Truitt is most interested in the overhead fan.
I'm resting "the back" as it hates for me to have fun.

Consider The Clouds
September 7, 2012
One day many years ago my boys and I were lying on our backs in the yard watching the clouds drift by. Dad, one asked, why do clouds float? Well, son, I began, intending to give him the benefit of my vast knowledge, but then I lapsed into silence. I dont know, I admitted, but Ill find out for you.
The answer, I discovered, is that condensed moisture, descending by gravity, meets warmer temperatures rising from the land. That moisture then changes into vapor and ascends back into the air. Thats a natural explanation for the phenomenon.
But natural explanations are not final answers. Clouds float because God in His wisdom has ordered the natural laws in such a way that they reveal the wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge (Job 37:16). Clouds then can be thought of as a symbolan outward and visible sign of Gods goodness and grace in creation.
So someday when youre taking some time to see what images you can imagine in the clouds, remember this: The One who made all things beautiful makes the clouds float through the air. He does so to call us to wonder and adoration. The heavenseven the cumulus, stratus, and cirrus cloudsdeclare the glory of God.
The Lords creation youll adore
As you observe each day unfold;
Let your imagination soar
As you His handiwork behold. Branon
Creation is filled with signs that point to the Creator.

“When he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. John 10:4”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are called sheep for a reason: without Him there is no way we can make it. When we know His voice we aim to be near Him, safe,and sound. When sheep roll over accidentally, which happens frequently, they often founder, and can not get up on their own. Their time is not long for being foundered, if help does not come, they die. Only one of numerous dangers for sheep. Dumb, and totally dependent on the shepherd for surviving another day. Do we forget how vulnerable we are? Easily distracted and turning aside to fall in a pit?
God bless us LORD, we need thee every moment. There are about 20 box turtles living in the back yard. Keeping fresh water, twice a day feedings, and lots of straw for them to crawl under to keep them cooler... is about all I can do for them. There are about 6-8 new baby turtles this summer. They do not come at the time to eat and the birds are getting fat off their intended food. It is puzzling why they do this. Too hot perhaps. Too many turtles in one area. I fear they have forgotten how to feed themselves. This is the desert really. No way to take them way out in the country and release. I have been thinking the golf courses might be a good home for them. Still they seem to strike out in one direction and keep going which usually is crossing a road of some kind. Not good. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ God has created all life, none exists outside of Him. Trust the LORD, obey His Word, turn not aside for foolish distractions. Love the LORD with all thy heart, soul, mind, spirit, strength and love thy neighbor as thyself. Thank Thee LORD for thy grace, mercy, forgiveness, Holiness, faithfulness, righteousness, humbly we come asking for forgiveness for our sins, and thanking thee for all our many blessings, in Jesus name, amen.
Precious, precious! And what a responsibility. The secret of the success of Jewish children is said to be because, once a week their father/or elder man of the family, places his hand on their head, ... each one individually and says a blessing of favor with/from God until they reach the age of being declared a man.
The Bible tells us to train up children in the way they are to go, and when they are old they will not depart from it.
When my children were babies, I did not know this. Nor had I been taught.
