Over the top how? Paterno and Co. covered up a guy having sex WITH CHILDREN on their watch, in order to win football games.

Wrong again. The money cannot go to any charity affiliated with PSU.
The penalties on Penn State were pretty meaningless. That university has over a billion in endowments and will probably get several times the money involved back from alumni.
I’ll be the first the first to admit I was wrong about the sanctions. These are much more severe than I expected. I also never imagined that Penn State would agree to such severe sanctions. I suspect powers that be at Penn State hate the sports program and were just too willing to see it ruined.
Then they better up their ticket prices and ask more alumni to kick in dough.The BTN revenue is kept separate from the bowl revenue so I doubt they will lose their unless they cut their percentage back.
The NCAA is also reserving the right to revisit this as further facts come to light. PSU has to know that they either accept this punishment or suffer a possible ban. IOW's the NCAA still holds a major hammer over PSU's future.
If a person with high morals was the President of Penn State, the whole Sandusky scandal would have been stopped and reported to the police immediately. Instead, the trustees hired a president whose stated goal was to make Penn State the most homosexual-friendly college in the nation; and he was desperate to keep all this a secret.
I would say Engle had modest success at PSU, but he was certainly no Bud Wilkinson or Bob Devaney.
Their highest ranking under Engle was 9th.
It's a sure win on the schedule for the next several years.

I was thinking Conference USA. Actually a reduced PSU Football program might be a good fit for Division I FCS. Would suggest a return to PSU’s natural place in the collegiate football world, pre-Paterno.

Sounds as though the IU Hoosiers and Minnesota Golden gophers will no longer be at the bottom of the Big 10 football schools.
Might be a good fit...although it’s hard to imagine a stadium with 107,000 capacity supporting a C-USA team.

I don’t understand vacating wins. The games happened. They were played, and someone won. They didn’t cheat. Passes were thrown, caught or dropped, etc - it all happened.
Paterno will face the Great Judge at the end of time. Had he lived, he would be facing the loss of everything that he cared about. No one is looking at what happened and saying, “I’d like to follow his example!” His reputation will forever be in the gutter.
I confess I don’t see where any of this involves football or the NCAA. An assistant coach working there today - why should he be penalized for something he had no involvement with? Why couldn’t the NCAA simply say, “It seems crimes were committed, and we trust the courts to handle these crimes” - and then let them do so?
As if they were even going to be close to being bowl eligible.
How many games would they have won if the truth about Sandusky came out earlier? The bottom line is the primary motivation for covering up Sandusky was to protect the program and to win games.....why do teams cheat at recruiting? To win games....it's cheating just the same.
