A jogger suffered numerous scratches and wounds after she was attacked by a family of raccoons in Lakewood that may have been startled by her dog.
An animal control officer was called to a home near Fort Steilacoom Park at 1:30 p.m. Monday where medics were treating the woman for about 28 marks on her body that were a combination of scratches and about six bite wounds.
The woman, Michaela Lee, said she had been jogging near the edge of the park with her dog when it got away from her and may have gone after a family of raccoons.
Suddenly and without warning, the raccoons came after her, Lee told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin McCarty.
"Three other raccoons charged me. They came out of the grass and they were just biting and scratching my legs," Lee said.
As she tried to escape, the raccoons kept coming -- knocking her down in the front yard of her home near 98th and Farwest.
"They stayed with me, and they were clawing the back of my legs, and they tripped me and I fell down. And they were just on me," Lee said.
Lee says her dog, Matty, quickly came to her rescue.
"Just teeth bared, growling and came at the raccoons and gave me time. I picked one of the raccoons up and instinctively flung it and she gave me time to get up and defend myself."

yeah...Saving Silverman is probably an acquired taste. it speaks to that part of my brain which never grew up, matured, got housetrained, etc.

It might not have the desired effect. It could scare the $#!^ out of birds!
Twenty eight “marks”.
That would take about one second for the racoons I’ve met.
That is what I want to cut down on. Blackbirds are spiteful critters, I had one hop all along to my towel and then let out a big mess. I swear they target my car and they aren’t to bothered by soakerguns either.
I trapped two this week that were killing my chickens. Took them over into Oklahoma for release.
Now I got to catch my chickens and lock them up again as they will not nest in their house now.
That is really, really not normal raccoon behavior. I’m surprised her doc hasn’t insisted on the rabies series.
After she got over that, and after I got over the affects of the Huckleberry switch, things calmed down until I was shipped off to the Corps.
It's hard to find a dog with a good credit rating.
Tell me about it. A dog once ate my preview and spell checker.
That’s what my dog is for
Coons are tough but how would you like to have to write a lost time accident report about an employee who was attacked by a cornered beaver?
It was terrible and no laughing matter!
