CNN have reportedly been informed of the contents of emails between top Penn State officials that allege a cover-up of a 2001 incident involving Jerry Sandusky, and the messages seem to implicate that it was Joe Paterno's idea to not report Sandusky

Joe Pa once said that the Bear was as “crooked as a dog’s leg” in his younger days, and reserved a special animosity for Jackie Sherrill, the former head coach at Pitt, Texas A&M and Mississippi State who was accused of cheating at every stop in his career. In fact, Paterno told Sports Illustrated that he remained in coaching (in part) to protect the game from individuals like Jackie Sherrill.
True, Sherrill was a cheater, and Bear Bryant probably broke a few rules in his days, too. But one thing is certain, whatever their “crimes,” they never protected a serial child molester who served as one of their top assistants. Joe Pa had the chance to do the right thing on multiple occasions, and always based his choice on protecting his reputation and the institution called Penn State football.
I don’t know if Paterno jacked up his pain medication to end it all, but he was guilty of participating in a massive cover-up that allowed Sandusky to continue his crimes, and destroy the lives of countless young men. Accordingly, Paterno’s “reputation” should be tarnished, and the scandal that he helped hide should be a defining measure of his coaching career.
Agree with all you wrote.
Folks, there is zero evidence Paterno influence anyone to cover things up. None. There is nothing in the emails which says....Joe says we should do X.....nothing. Curley references talking with Joe when he is talking to his superiors. There is no evidence the conversation took place and Curley is on trial for perjury.
Paterno testified before the grand jury and the legal process says he testified truthfully. Not so for Curley and Shultz.
So many Freepers loath the very media you now lap up what they report as truth.
McQuery was and is still a coward, nothing he will ever do will erase the fact that he refused to act. Paterno built a football program that became a cult. Paterno stayed way too long. To think that he did not know is a fool’s game. He knew what a POS Sandusky was, but he chose to look the other way.
There are no non-guilty parties in this mess, not the administration, not Paterno, not the current head coach, not the donors, not the local residents that refuse to admit that Paterno was indeed guilty.

...not quite sure how the current head coach fits into the guilty verdict...he’s completely outside the PSU family...
