SOMEBODY give us SOME hope!
Was there a silver lining in the Stamp Act? The Declaratory Act? The Tea Act?
The Supreme Court’s ruling today is the eqivalent of the Intolerable Acts, when the conspiracy against the people became clear for all to see.
It’s 1774 again, people. Let’s get to work!
How about that Americans now have access to affordable health care? /SARC
The issue is no longer Obamacare itself, so arguments on that score don't matter. I couldn't care less about any short-term partisan advantage this may or may not represent.
The only thing that matters is that the Supreme Court has now confirmed that we are all serfs to the federal government, cementing it's earlier Kelo decision that we only have the illusion of actually owning property. Now, we are completely subject to the whim of the government, or face "taxes" in penalty. And when the "taxes" get to be so great that they can't be paid, what happens?
First, and always - God is on His throne and firmly in control.
Second - none of Obamacare goes into place until 2014. What that means is that freedom lovers have this as a passionate issue for the 2012 elections.
Third - this can be undone.
Fourth - this won’t kill us. It will make us stronger.
I see a bloodbath for the Democrats in November. GOP voters will be crawling over broken glass to get to the polls.
Simple: Now that Roberts has called a spade a spade (that it’s a tax) it gives every federal candidate their main talking point for this election. It is our Prime Directive for defeating all those who voted for it this election.
Though I think the decision still sucks, kudos to Roberts in calling it a tax. People are saying ‘how can the govt tax you for inaction?’ They do all the time - it’s called a FINE, which we all know is really a TAX, and they’ve simply tried to polish the turd by calling it something else.
We’re another step closer to finally having it out in Civil War 2.0?
“Awakening the sleeping giant” that’s American conservatism is a very good thing, prior to this November’s general election. The next Congress will be much more conservative, and they, along with President Romney, have promised, over and over and over, to repeal all of ObamaCare, as soon as possible. The majority of the general public have been against ObamaCare (along with everything else pro-Barack Obama) for a very long time, and electing a majority of anti-ObamaCare politicians to the next Congress and WH will succeed in the complete repeal of all of ObamaCare. Really!
0bamacare may or may not survive as legislation.
The individual mandate/tax may or may not survive SCOTUS review after someone pays the tax and has standing to challenge it.
But the principle that the commerce clause is a LIMITED power is one that will no doubt be cited so long as America and the concept of a government of limited and enumerated powers endures.
Finally, AT LAST, there was one “camel” that was just too big fat and ugly to be threaded through the “needle” of the commerce clause.
If that is true then it is quite significant.
Obviously we are much more likely to get 51 GOP Senators after November 6th than we are to get 60.
Romney vows to repeal, since this ruling this morning he has tweeted they have reported a million dollars in donations today.
What Did SCOTUS Just Do?
They took a not surprising course and kicked the matter back into the hands of the voters.
The showdown is in November.
Be there.
Obama’s “Signature Accomplishment” (achieved with the help of his fellow socialists in congress) is the opposite of a selling point.
He is the instigator of “THE LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN HUMAN HISTORY”.
Not likely to appeal to any voter with a brain, and the election is right around the corner.
Some of it has already gone into effect.
Third - this can be undone
Obamacare itself? Yes. But getting the USSC to overturn its own precedent in decalring us all to be serfs of the federal government, not as easy.
Fourth - this wont kill us. It will make us stronger.
Neither. It's made us slaves.
I don’t know but I do know this;
Every time we get a long complex ruling from the SC, the MSM cannot wait to tell us its a victory for liberals. Only after some diligent study by careful readers do we later learn that the much heralded victory has the seeds for destruction of the liberal position. Based on history, this opinion’s effects are not fully appreciated yet. Based on history, some things may very well surface that takes the steam out of the perceived liberal victory.
Or not.
Holder will be held in contempt. More of a done deal
But did he have to rule it a tax? Couldn’t he have stopped at “unconstitutional commerce mandate”?
I thought the House has to pass taxes and have they officially passed the Obamacare tax? Seems to me they have not. Doesn’t this throw it back into the lap of Congress?
