BOSTON, - Boston's Franklin Park Zoo said its corpse flower, named for the odor its flower gives off, bloomed overnight to welcome the first day of summer.
The amorphophallus titanium plant, nicknamed Morticia, measures 4 feet, 9 inches tall and has begun its 48-hour bloom, which takes place only once every 15 years, The Boston Globe reported Wednesday.
Zoo officials said the plant is one of only about 30 to bloom in captivity and needs to be kept in conditions mimicking those of its native western Indonesia, including a temperature of 82 degrees and a humidity level of 80 percent to 90 percent.
Zoo officials said the facility will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. while the flower is in bloom.

You think that’s amazing, you should see the bee that pollinates it.

We had something like that in a retail store that I worked at back in the mid-80s. One day we came in and it was.... stimulated.
They hired a clean-up crew to keep the doors open with massive fans and guards to keep folks (without a sense of smell) from walking off with anything.
We were closed for 2 days.

'........nicknamed Morticia, measures 4 feet, 9 inches tall'That just described my ex-wife to exquisite perfection.
"As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
