Just got back from my cataract surgery follow up, my right eye is now 20/20. Before surgery I was legally blind in that eye.
On the 19th of this month I go in for the left eye.
If you have cataracts get them fixed! I had no idea just how near blind I was and I missed way too much!
Yep. Cataracts are subtle thieves ... steal your sight slowly.
It's been a long time since I could see that clearly.
It is truly a miracle!
Hmmmm, might consider this operation.......my wife and I have been married for 33 years........
A word of caution from someone that has had several surgical procedures on each eye
The doctor will probably give you eye drops for use during the healing process (Systane in my case, but there are several different brands). And it will probably be a cardboard box full of strips of these little plastic doo-dads. You break one off the strip of plastic and then twist the top off to a little reservoir that has enough eye drops for two eyes.
Carrying this around was a hassle, and my wife found the same drops in a nice plastic bottle WRONG. The bottle has a preservative in it that will actually retard the healing of your eye. The little individual packages do not. Dont use the bottle till your eye is completely healed.
Isn't it great to see things in full color again! I was 20/400 in my right eye before surgery and 20/70 after. I've gone from $350 prescription glasses to cheap drugstore reading glasses for close up work and none at all for distance. I couldn't wait to get the left eye done.

GtG
I had both eyes done 4 years ago. How great it is not having to wear glasses anymore except for reading. Awesome!
If you have moderate to bad cataracts you have no idea what you’re missing. You get used to them, but getting rid of them just makes the world come alive again. Everything just sparkles, the colors will knock your socks off!
That’s great news!
This was a nice post. I am happy for you.
As I said in previous posts I had the same surgery on both eyes as yourself ten years ago. I’d gotten to the that I could only see flowing colors of browns, yellows, blacks, some reds backlit by whatever light source be it Sun, or artificial light. It was horrible not being able to see beyond those swirling colors that seemed the texture of mud.
I was so thankful for the restoration of each eye, and thankful if only the one could have been repaired, but then to have both of them back to 20/20 was an exhilarating experience.
Lots of prayers followed by many thanks to GOD.
I know, and appreciate your joy.
Happy for your improvement; hope the other works as well!
Twice in my life I have driven family home from the hospital after this surgery. Both times I was treated to a litany of superlatives and exclamations of how beautiful and colorful things were. It was a joy. Congratulations, and best wishes on your FUP surgery.
I’m having this done in Oct. My cataracts are mild relative to yours but cause me problems when driving at night. What was your corrected vision before surgery and how long did it take, recovery time etc?
Great news! I’m happy to hear all went well! Praying that the next one will go well, too.
Had mine done in 2007...Right first and couple weeks later the Left.
Woke up to a whole new world after the first one, and after the second the ‘quality of life’ soared enormously.
Still need glasses for computer and ‘regular print’ and general vision still excellent.
The only problem I ran into was ‘front peripheal’ vision in regards to parking - my forward depth perception is off, I still find myself too far back from the front of parking space.
The dumb part was I suffered declining vision for about 5 years before I allowed someone to ‘take a knife’ to my eyes.
Don’t know the numbers but the state DMV classed me as legally blind in my right eye. My glasses have some really massive lenses, won’t need them any more.
I am very happy for you.
