POSTING WITH THE NAKED EYE

Lat Tuesday I had the cataracts in my right eye removed and a new lens implanted. I checked in yesterday to get the wrappings removed.
It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I had no clue just how nearly blind I was. I can close my "new" right eye and the view I get from the cloudy left is dismal, before surgery my left eye was the best.
I napped a lot yesterday, at first I couldn't quite get my vision right, but every time I woke up things were a little bit clearer. This morning is almost unbelievable.
I can focus a manual focus camera without glasses or an eyepiece magnifier.
I can clearly read the LCD display on my DSLR without my glasses.
Colors are amazing again, white is truly white, not a dingy grayish yellow.
I can precisely align the sights on a pistol again, and on a rifle.
The cataracts sneak in, you might not notice them, you just keep adjusting and compensating. I got pretty good at that, but I sure have missed a lot. I wish I'd caught them sooner.

Your story is giving me the incentive to do what I ~know~ I need to do, but have been trying to avoid.

You will not regret having this surgery. It is one of the most successful operations done. I have no regrets, and wish I had caught the problem sooner and had the surgery done even earlier.

I had no pain at all. The eye protector is an overnight hassle but no big deal. I can hardly wait to get the other eye done,

Great news, man! My mom just had a similar experience. Take it easy... The happy shock will wear off and you’ll have some headaches... On to the next!

That second to the last seems to be a very important one these days.
I started wearing glasses in the third grade. On the way home with my mom I'm reading signs that I couldn't read before glasses, my mom stopped the car and I excitedly exclaimed "oh, that's what that sign says, STOP"
My mom was astounded, she had no idea how bad my eyes were.
So, yeah, I can relate. Good for you! Stay safe.

Congratulations! Now, just don’t strain your eyes at the computer monitor. These “jumping pixels” aren’t all that good for our eyes for long at a time.

My dad (who is also an accomplished photograper, as you are) mentioned the same thing about the colors becoming “true” again, when he had his cataracts done. So happy you are happy with the results!

What a great post!
In spite of all of our current trials, both personal and national, we live in an amazing world, full of wonders and miracles undreamed of just a few years ago, historically speaking.
And yes, we live in the most exceptional country ever in history.
And congratulations on your own private miracle. May you enjoy it many more years!

My surgery was done about three years ago.
Like you got could not believe how bad my eyesight was. I have been wearing glasses since the seventh grade.
Best part was my surgery was done during the Christmas holidays. I was like a kid again. All the shapes and beautiful colors.
I very happy for you.
