Dog bites people, goes after cops, cops shoot it to protect themselves and others. Sounds like it was reasonable this time to me.
I’m probably going to get crucified by the “all cops are evil monsters” brigade for that though.
Grayhound Martin? The Passion of St. Milk Bone.
Some people allow their dogs to roam free, off their property and out of control, I know that firsthand.
Some people abandon their pets.
Both types should pay full legal consequences for their actions, which are, in a word, despicable.
I don’t have a problem with this scenario. They were working on conjunction with Animal Control and obviously went out of their way to handle the situation w/o killing the dog.
Some dogs need killing.
The owners all claimed they were "nice" dogs.
I did not call the cops. All it took was a visit from my father to talk to the owners to "straighten out things out". He did not threaten to sue, just present them with the doctor bill and a warning. My "Old Man" could be very intimidating and scary too.
2 of the dogs were owned by state cops. He did not care who he was, just control your dog and don't bite my boy again. No repeat bites from any dogs. They were leashed up and controlled after the visits.
That happened 40 years ago.
THe White House chef will be right over to take custody of the victim.
Good shoot, and I’m as down on cops in “cop shoots dog unjustifiably” stories as anyone.
One good shoot out of 10,000.
Nope, not the usual kind of case WE READ about, but it is not really a widespread police practice to murder dogs.
This is an example of a professional police officer/department handling aggressive dogs. Most cops are like this. The problem is when they circle the wagons around a bad cop.
Sad that the Rott had to be shot...but it had to be done (this from a long time rottie owner). At least this time they had animal control on the scene trying catch the dogs before the officer was forced to shoot one.
Not the dog’s fault either...the shame and the blame falls entirely on the owner. Dogs running loose, especially in groups, can revert very quickly to the pack mentality. Even ‘good’ dogs.
This is a sad story. Bad owners.
When I owned my rottweiler, my baby girl puppy, we had her trained, got her canine good citizen and never walked her without a leash and prong collar. She was a well-socialized, lovely girl, very silly, but we were responsible.
She was also very small for her breed, less than 80 lbs (72 was perfect for her, she was a chongus fat girl at 77) but still capable of scaring bears with her bark. We took our responsibility very seriously.
She also ate crayons.
We never let her outside off lead.
Bad owners make bad dogs.
